Kent Senior Cup

I know this subject comes up every year but I am interested to know what other people think. I don't know how to put a poll on here so I will do it this way. I would like to know what users of this forum attend the KSC or Ryman League cup matches. There were only 113 there on Tuesday. Who on this forum does not ever attend these matches? If you do not attend why not. I know I live some distance away but when I lived locally I did not generally attend the matches as I believe that it is not the same quality football, as most teams put out their reserves or lesser teams. Because of this I don't see why I should pay full prices to attend. However for those people, who like me, don',t go what could be done to persuade you.

I believe that the club should, as a one off experiment, reduce the entrance fee to £6.00 and see if gates increase. I also think that the club could produce a reduced programme of maybe a couple of sheets to save money. If the prices on Tuesday had been this price it would only have needed an extra sixty people to attend to make the same money. However that fifty people may well have bought drinks in the bar or tea and coffees and food, increasing the revenue further. Not only that but it would increase the atmosphere. I know its a risk but is it worth the gamble?

i think the lower quality doesnt help - Welling's team was very young and clearly a complete ressie/youth side. Not exactly inspiring to watch. Also negates the effect of us trying triallists/youngsters as even if they do perform well it's not much of a test for when the much bigger jump comes.

i don't like the Ryman cup, but this season was the only time where i didn't attend a ryman cup game since we've been in the ryman and i would have gone to the KSC if i didn't have panto rehearsals, i prefer the KSC mainly because you are garunteed to play one of your rivals unless it's someone like VCD or Cray

Well I attended and paid my £9 (as a season ticket holder I have to pay for cup matches) but think £6 would have been more appropiate. The match on Tuesday was very enjoyable mainly because the Welling side came to play football and for once this season it was played on the deck so a horizontal position was not required to see the ball.

However, I would agree with buzz (is it lightyear or Aldrin) that because of the youthfullness of the Wings it did not really help the cause of the squad and ressie players. But, I also think Aaron gave 'The Gaffer' something to think about.

Thanks for those who have answered so far. My view would be that I would be quite happy to go along to the game with a tenner, pay the £6.00 but still come away with nothing, after enjoying a drink in the bar a tea and maybe a burger. The club would only gain from this. It may even encourage a few away supporters to travel.

I am also a season ticket holder but happily went along and paid my money Tuesday. Whether its the first team or not it is a good chance to look at the fringe and young players. As far as i am aware the club have to enter the KSC and cannot drop the price, so lets support the club by turning up. Watch the crowd rise if we get to the Final!!

I went to the game. I'd prefer it to be £6 to £9 because then I'd have an extra £3 in my pocket (stating the bleedin' obvious I know). Would anyone who didn't go because it was £9 go if it was £6 though?

Has anybody noticed the marketing ploy of satanta this season. They have rescurected the old conference cup which has been a disaster for years and was actually withdrawn after a very poor attendance at the last final. This season the cup is between all blue square clubs and there is prize money for the winners of each round, as in the FA cup and trophy, with £1000 for winners of first round and £16000 for final winners. There are also TV rights, as they are showing live matches in each round. The clever part though is that the first round proper which is when all the premier clubs come in is being played this SATURDAY. This virtually guarantees high attendances rather than playing on a miserable Tuesday night. Well worth putting out a strong team for particularly for the North /South clubs

I think with most clubs now the penny has dropped that all these cup competitions are meaningful, both for the prize money, the opportunity to keep players fit;and indeed supporter interest in the winter months.Ok in the early round people pretend to be dis-interested, but its funnny how everyone comes to life as clubs get nearer the finals.

The other thing about the setana cup is that you must play at least 10 players who were in the squad for the previous league game (incl subs) so you do not get just reserves playing

The point is CE, being a Saturday more people will not want to miss their weekly match. The attendances will certainly be higher than in midweek and as stated above the clubs must play their strongest team. Also the prize money for winners is nearly on par for the early rounds of the FA Cup
