Not that they seem to be missing him (I see Mr Hale scored two and set up two on Saturday) but ex-Northwood striker Scott Fitzgerald scored two tonight for Watford's reserves who thrashed their illustrious Chelsea counterparts 5-1 at Aldershot.

 

That makes it four in three reserve games since he signed for Watford.

Maybe in line for a call up for the semi final if he's not cup tied?

Michael Chopra, who has scored loads for Newcastle reserves, is supposedly a target as a loan signing to the end of the season and if that happens I doubt Fitzgerald will get his chance as much as I'd like to see it. I think they're protecting him a bit and don't want to ruin his confidence by throwing him in too quickly.

 

I'd be tempted to put him in now though given how crap Watford are at scoring goals at the moment. He might have only played reserve games so far but considering the players he's been up against, scoring four in three is a fantastic achievement. Not sure about the Chelsea lineup tonight but Fulham reserves at the weekend had Bjarne Goldbaek, John Collins and Lee Clark in their midfield! If you can score goals in that sort of company then the average first division defence shouldn't pose a problem.

 

You know Steve Hale well don't you - how does he rate Fitzgerald?

fitzgerald is one of the best players outside of the premier....we tracked him for a long time but had no chance....great player...hope he does well and gets to the top.....

 

wouldn't be surprised if he didn't end up in the prem in a couple of years...sincerely hope so.....

Hale always thought that his first touch was questionable, but he was quick enough to get himself out of trouble.

 

Undoubtedly very talented, as he showed in the Gascoigne-esque goal against us on 4th Jan at their place.

Just read on the Ryman forum that he is cup-tied after playing for Northwood against Haringey Boro earlier in the season, so no fairy tale there.....

After your question yesterday I dug out the programme from the Northwood game and he played against Wisbech too I think. Oh well, he'll have to save it until next year in Europe!
