Then wait for the over ruling of the decision by the County FA subsequently over ruled by the FA. Date set aside for a preliminary hearing. Case goes to court and club docked 15 points. European court gets involved and over rules the British Justice system. Referee gets locked up for life! Player gets an MBE! Team given back their 15 points because they were worried that they may be involved in an end of season relegation struggle and no one likes to see someone struggling.

Correct....exactly what happened.
I would have thought a free kick to the non-offending team would have been the more logical outcome...but rules are rules!

It is not a free kick as no offence has been committed by a player on the field of play. Substitutes are in this situation an "outside agent" just like a dog or a spectator running on to the field of play. The referee him/herself is different and counts as part of the field of play, like a goalpost.

It reminds me of my ref training course. One of my colleagues was a really wierd character, not entirely the full shilling so to speak. He raised his hand to say that he had offciated (unofficially) at a game and awarded a pen. After the ball was kicked and while it was travelling forward, a plastic bag blew onto the pitch and the ball entered it. I can't remember if ball and bag subsequently entered the goal or what, but frankly I don't believe a word of it. Anyway, the point is, the bag was an outside agent and in this case the penalty kick should have been retaken. Had it ocurred during open play, play would have been stopped and restarted with a drop ball. It is not necessary to caution the bag.....

Actually Laws are Laws. It's something that refs like to be pedantic about. sleep

I agree that this seems fair, however, Leeds should also be deducted a further 10 points as well duck
