More Ideas???

Hello people its me again. I missed the Bedfont game last night, it must of been mighty cold for those who braved it. But the 4-0 win would of warmed those who were there up. Well done Town!!

Anyway after my first post the other day it got me thinking about some more ideas which I would like to share with Town fans.

Firstly, Our programme is okay but if you look at it as follows it doesn't sound too good:

32 pages inc cover

28 pages without

16 real pages

16 advertisements (50% - yes i know they help income stream etc)

Of the 16 pages we can take off 1 which is the kit sponsors which never changes and 1 more for supporters club news (which rarely ever changes much apart from the odd tweak here and there) likewise with the JETS page (half of which is always a application form to join) and an extra three are the team line ups and results/team history it only leaves 10 pages that are of any written quality. Thats 31% of the programme. Not that good! If you were to visit the cinema to see 'the golden compass' and only got 31% you'd be disapointed to say the least. Surely, there are some frustrated journalists/reporters out there (i'm one) who can contribute to the programme...How can we?

My ideas for new features are:

1) The best of the internet from the posts on this site or, buy a cheap pay as you go phone and let supporters text in there comments to be put in the programme.

2) A sports betting challenge page. Maybe a player, supporter and member of the board are given £20.00 to start with and bet on a specific match/matches each week to see how succesful they are.. For example Paul Campbell might say £2.00 treble on Man United, Yeovil and Dumbarton etc etc.. Remember ETFC says bet sensibly!

3) Where are they now? Ex-player news

4) Supporters view point.. Away daze (!) tales

5) Matches from the past (now EFC are dead (technically speaking) shouldn't we be celebrating and remanising on matches from the past...I'd say 80%(maybe higher) of fans are ex e's supporters...

6) More news from youth teams and reserves...League tables

7) Ryman stat round up.. Last six form guide. Average Attendances etc .... Race for the Ryman league golden boot

8) Essex senior league news...Lets not forget our roots... Maritius Sports and Pennant??? Beaumont Athletic?? Race for promotion to Ryman leagues... Essex Senior, Spartan, Combined Counties

9) News from Division 1 south..

10) News from the premier

11) Middlesex Senior and Charity cup draws seeing as we're gonna win them...

I don't expect war and peace but I don't want to chuck my proggy in the draw as soon as I get home.. Wanna read it on the toilet in the middle of the week etc?

Anymore ideas from you fellow fans??

***********************************************************

Secondly,

An idea for a pre-season tournament (remember the one in Hendon in the early nineties when we thrashed Batty's Woking??)

The Enfield Town Charity Trophy will feature four teams for example:

1) ETFC

2) Barnet

3) Stevenage Borough

4) Leyton Orient (reserves and youth etc)

Saturday: 1PM - 1 V 2

3PM - 3 V 4

Sunday: 1PM - THIRD PLACE PLAYOFF

3PM - FINAL

£5.00 WEEKEND TICKET

£1.00 FOR KIDS

Some of the money goes to local charity.

We could have a BBQ, A beer fetival over the weekend (big tent), Stalls selling programmes etc, Coaching sessions for the kids whilst games going..Photo's of players with kids etc.. A whole weekend of fun and excitment instead of a pre-season friendly against Billericy Town or Chelmsford City (no offence) where everybody goes home at 5PM.

On the Saturday we could invite Sir Eddie McCluskey and Barry Fry along to talk to fans about the 80's and the good old Halcyon Days.

This would raise the profile of the club in the local area and generate new fans..

Maybe we could even sell the TV rights to Setanta Sports (okay thats going too far!!)

It would take alot of organising but what does everybody think?

******************************************

Thirdly,

The England manager situation.. Capello and Lippi are now favourites... Its to my surprise that one name hasn't been mentioned yet and that is:

George Borg

He would be a fantastic choice, he wouldn't take no rubbish from the £100k a week boys, he is quite simply the best man manager I have ever seen, he'd be great with the press... The FA would only have to pay him a very small percentage of what the Italian's would want, He's a master tactician, Great with the fans... He's out of work! He would know where the FA headquarters are from previous experince. He could get Graham Roberts in to help him (love him or loathe him Roberts was a good manager when he was at Southbury Road)

Just think about how great that would be???

BARWICK sort it out and hire Borg!

Cheers for reading

Some good ideas re the programme. Why don't you contactr Ciaron Glennon to set up a meet to discuss?

Re the tounament, why the f*** Orient or are you Frank Cartwright in disguise!!!???

Re George Borg. If he was Englend manager, half those over paid pr1cks would run a mile and retire!

You seem to have an awful lot of ideas don't you? but you can leave my "JETS" Page in the programme alone. We have the Application Form there for a reason. If you "Do Away" with the "JETS" Page, then you "Do Away" with the "JETS". Likewise the supporters club page.

Granted a lot of the stuff on there is the same, but then we don't always have the same people at the ground do we?

I don't see the point in dragging up past EFC History as we have our own History now dont we? After all we are Enfield Town FC now.

I'm not sure s/he was suggesting that the Jets page is done away with, just that the other content is increased. Obviously a good idea in principle but the problem is finding someone with the time to do the research as well as write it. Equally obviously a bigger prog will cost more to produce: would people pay more for a bigger prog or would it lead to a net loss?

I totally agree with SL that it is not desirable to drag up another, now defunct, club's past. Why not have a regular feature on "this day 5 years ago" giving a brief account of the Town fixture that weekend? In due course it can become "this day 5 and 10 years ago" and so on...

Sounds like far too many ideas to put into the matchday programme. Those good ideas would better suit a bi-monthly fanzine.A new 'Talk of the Town End' if you like.Maybe a Talk of the Railway End?.Even in the internet age, five of six editions throughout the season would still sell well in the shop and around the ground.

ETF,how about producing such a publication yourself?.

I prefer to read about aspects of our club, I especially enjoy the page on the Ladies team blush, and dont have much interest in other leagues or even teams.

WHAT? How can you not have interest in other leagues? You mean you dont care how Haverfordwest County get on each week or even Berwick Rangers & more importantly Histon, that's all part of the journey home after a Town game, listening to the results, oh it gets very serious especially if The Hats team, Connahs Quay Nomads, dont win!!
