Some Random thoughts of a Enfield Town Fan

Hello there everyone.

Being only just blessed with access to the internet I have been able to post some of my thoughts on Enfield Town FC as follows:

1) I am personally fully behind and very supportive of Jim Chandler. Over the last few weeks the FEW suporters (??) who have called for his head are well out of order. Yes, he has got the team selection wrong and yes this season has been not as good as past seasons.. BUT, Jim gives his all for our club and will get us promoted soon. Look at the league table, We are still in it! I think Dartford are gonna run away with the league after Christmas and we should aim for a playoff place..And with luck (we deserve some) we could go up! JIM STAYS PUT and stays put for along time. He is ETFC!!

2) With Horsham on the box (if you've got Sky) tonight away on a murky December night against a league side it brings some fantastic memories flooding back of our away days in the cup. Torquay, York, Cardiff, Chesterfield & Preston (courtesy of Jim Chandler's team spirit), Peterborough, Orient (twice) ...........CAN WE PLEASE NEXT YEAR HAVE A DECENT RUN IN THE CUP??..Even away to a conference side would be nice. That night at Plainmoor will leave long in the memory..I still believe if Gary Abbot wasn't sent off and he played at Leicester we would of run them close without doubt. Hell we would of won and gone on to win the thing (okay maybe not)

3) Can we have a run in the Trophy as well.. I still remember John Bailey jumping into the crowd at Aggborough and our fantastic win at Bromsgrove (when they were doing well in the Conference) Martin St Hilaire was awesome that day. Next year we should aim at at least (as above in the cup) drawing a conference side.... Imagine the excitment of a train journey to the might of Crawley Town or Droylesdon...The 200 + visiting fans celebrating a Crace 89th minute winner after town have outcrfted their superior opposition with there football genius.

4) What does everybody think of the Match Programme? Well set out and a professional effort but I think it could do with a bit more content. THIS DAY 10 YEARS AGO IN NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL, PLAYER PROFILES (OR A DAY IN THE LIFE OF??), LEAGUE NEWS, MORE ABOUT THE YOUTHS AND RESERVES (LEAGUE TABLES..FIXTURES??), MAYBE A PAGE ON BRIMSDOWN (THEY ARE OUR FRIENDS AND IT WOULD BE GOOD SEEING AS THEY ARE RIDING HIGH IN THE LEAGUE), ADOPT A SUNDAY LEAGUE SIDE AND FOLLOW THERE PROGRESS, TALES FROM SUPPORTERS OF AWAY DAYS ETC ETC..... NOT STUFF ABOUT THE GOALDEN GOALS EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT.

5) Our crowds are down and we need to encourage people back to see Town. How about a feature in the local paper of 'Old supporters come back day??' There are many people who remember Southbury Road and don't come anymore. How about a party day inviting all old fans back to renew aquantancies. Talk about the glory glory days. Free beer? Buy one get one free.... Reduced entrance for Spurs/Arsenal season ticket holders.

6) After the game alot of people disappear... The q&a session at the AGM was on a Wesdnesday night. How about a Q&A session after the game with old players/new players etc.

7) Can we have a stadium like Dartfords please?

8) In relation to the programme why not like Dartford's have the best of the internet comments from here. I know there maybe a problem with offensive stuff but that can be filtered etc.

I know a ground out hard win against GWR is not like a home game with Telford United in the Conference but we are getting there. What with the changes in that league since with left in 1990 I think its gonna be hard work to get back there but IT CAN BE DONE?

Who would of thought that when we run out against Barnet on New Years Day 1990 we would be here now. The old (re-formed) club in the Essex Senior and us in the Ryman 1 (which technically is Ryman 2 prior to the re-shuffle) and Barnet in the league... One thing doesn't change though Underhill is still falling down but unfortunetaly Southbury Road (after the actions of a few) is flat and sadly like most places in Enfield a development of luxury apartments and spacious houses starting price £350,000 (who can afford to live in Enfield now?)

I'll leave you with a message to Enfield Council -----VISIT PRINCES PARK, DARENTH ROAD, DARTFORD, KENT, DA1--------See what a club like Town can do? Invest and reap the rewards of not just a football stadium but a community facility for the use of all ages, sexes, races etc etc. In a world where as I've stated money talks and houses/developments are springing up everywhere give something back to US. Enfield neeeds a stadium. If you can grant permission for Spurs Academy surely you can grant permission and help us develop QE2 from a tired old ramshackle stadium into a shiny new beacon of hope for the young and old to use all times of the week...

See you all at Ilford.

PS - Bring back Talk of The Town End...I found all my old copies when i recently cleaned out a cupboard.... Its a shame this publication had to finish.

I enjoyed reading your post ETF.

You make a lot of good points, which I all would have to pretty much agree with.

I remember going to Chesterfield and celebrating the Wayne Brown winner, quality!! Good times!!

Preston was also a good performance, grinding out a well earned replay - I even got my picture on the back of the Advertiser in the crowd that day - happy days!! yay

Peterborough I remember, but not as well, we lost 4-1 right?? Richardson scored for us?? My memory fails me crazy

They can't grant Planning Permission for the QE because no-one has applied for it. If a satisfactory application was submitted (with, I believe, Listed Building Consent) they would grant it. They granted it for Spurs because Spurs applied for it.

Item 6 I thinkis a good idea - might be awkward after a heavy defeat or a match in which tempers flared! (perish the thought).

Items 2, 3 and possibly 5 - you seem to be confusing ETFC with EFC.
