Saturday's result

John Pearce

Recommended Posts

Having supported the 'Fleet since the 1962/63 season, I have seen the club struggle through some really bad times and yes, I have enjoyed the good times as well, All that time, good and bad, I have continued to support my local club and really cared about the 'goings on' at Stonebridge Road.

That was until the start of this season...first came the ridiculous and totally unnecessary name change, then even worse came the farce that is the MyFc takeover.

The reality is that I didn't bother to go on Saturday, why? I had something better to do, like Christmas shopping and because the club, that I have followed and indeed loved for over 43 years no longer represents me as a supporter, the board have 'dumped' on the supporters of this club once too often and the truth is that when I saw the result in the papers on Sunday (I didn't bother to listen to Radio Kent, or look on teletext etc. etc.) It is sad and I hate to admit it but I just couldn't give a toss.

I am afraid the people that currently run the club, those that are supposed to do what is best for the club and claim to be true supporters. have managed to alienate the one group of people that they will one day need again....its true supporters.

As I have said elsewehere the entire board should hang their heads in shame. Whatever they may say and whatever the people from MyFc may say, the day this farce goes through will be the blackest day in the 'Fleets relatively short history. They have succeeded in attaining more publicity for the club in a month then probably in its entire history, whatever they may think they have also made the club the laughing stock of non-league football.

If they think anything else and I sure they do, then they are more deluded than even I gave them credit for.

I can understand your feelings John.

I used to stand on the terraces with a current member of the Board. It seems when he became a Board Member, he forgot what being a Supporter was, and was only in it for the Business.

Seeing the trouble the Club are in, he turned out to be a worse Businessman than Supporter!

Didn't you recently say that you didn't go to a game as you didn't care? Something about watching the grass grow.

However I do see where you are coming from and, as people know, can say I know how you feel.

I don't agree with the tried and tested phrase "Support your team until the end and if you give up then your not a true supporter". Hearing this from another MyFC supporter will make them even more patronising. You just can't pick two teams guys, pick one. You've signed up to MyFC as you want a say in the way a club is run, any club.

If you feel like that then you obviously don't ike the way your club is being run, so then why bother? You might as well give up on your support of the club you have no say in and support Ebbsfleet, who you Co-run, full time. You would gain an awful lot of respect.

If we ever make it to the top flight then I don't think I'd like it. I'd obviously like the success but the Premiership just isn't football. If I'm forced to support a team in the god awful league then I think my support will dwindle. You might then say that I don't truely support Ebbsfleet as I can forsee a day when I will give up my support. To get into and stay in the Premiership this club will have to change to unrecognisable proportions and will be full of people from all over the world who have never seen as play and have no proper affiliation with the club.

Oh, hang on a minute...

Carshalton, consecutive match number 130 and I love this club. I don't know if my support can go any higher but I can forsee a time when it goes lower and at the moment is on very dodgy uneven ground.

So what now John? You won't be doing Christmas shopping in January. What will you do with your Saturday's from now?

Do you presume to speak for all 'true supporters' (whatever that means) ?

There may be some to whom 'alienating......true supporters' may sound contradictory.

If you don't give a toss about the club John nobody can make you, it is entirely your choice but why do you feel it neccesary to post on here that you would rather go shopping or watch grass grow?

John

Unfortunately your 1 of the "forgotten" fans by the Club. There's a few of us out there.

I still post occasionally on here, because I want to see the Club do well. Especially of late, as I want to see MYFC do some of things previous Boards have failed to do in order to move the Club forward.

However, the current Board have really killed my "Saturday afternoons". In fact I rarely even watch football on TV now. Maybe once the takeover is complete, the current Board members will do the Club the honour of staying away for "one season" just so they get an understanding of how their decisions have ruined other people's enjoyment.

Because after 43 years of "giving a toss" it is very difficult to accept that suddenly any feelings that you may have had for a football club have gone.

The reason for posting on here is in the faint hope that the board may see and appreciate what many (and despite what anyone else says or puts on this forum it is many) 'real' 'Fleet supporters are feeling at this time and in the hope that they see sense and pull out of this farce before its too late.

In response to the question of what I will do on Saturday's in the New Year? ..... who knows, I may play the more ocassional round of golf, I'll probably still go to the ocassional game but it won't be with the same keeness as in the past. I'll certainly no longer be proudly driving around the country (as I do for work) with a car sticker on my car, if I miss a game then so be it. I will no longer go that 'extra' mile to support the club, either by attending games regularly or by standing up for the club and its results in the usual Monday morning football debates in the office.

If they succeed....fine, if the club fails (which I predict it will) then it will be sad, but que cera cera.

Ruined some other peoples enjoyment Jim.

I didn't like us going full-time, I didn't like the change of name and I certainly would not have voted for a takeover by MyFC but I still enjoy cheering the Fleet on.

Of course i don't presume to speak for anyone other than myself though I am pretty sure my sons saturday afternoon enjoyment was ruined by the linesmans flag rather than anything the board had done.

Slarti

I was expressing "my" opinion - nobody else's, but based on the number of letters in the local papers etc I'm not alone.

I'm not going to argue with you on this one, as I'll only get annoyed and arguing over the internet is pointless. Thats my final comment on the matter.

Trust me JimGNFC you are not alone

I was a season ticket holder at the fleet for 10 years but have not been to a game since the name change. First the name change, now the farce that is Myfc.

It makes me sick to the stomach that the club I loved has been ripped apart by a board that couldn't give a stuff about it's supporters. I really feel they have made the club a laughing stock in the last 9 months and feel they should all be held accountable when it all goes wrong
