well done to york city fans

UP FLEET

Recommended Posts

I would like to congratulate those york city fans who through all that atrocious weather remained up beat about a game of football. I drink in the top house at swanscombe and was talking with the landlord about the fleet in general. These fans come down in mini buses every time they play any southern side, weather its grays canvey, the fleet, dagenham, and they always attend his pub, they are a very friendly happy bunch, who talk about football, love following york, and have never caused one once of trouble, they have even awarded the top house(rising sun) with a trophy for favourite away pub which barry the landlord is very proud to have recieved.Once 2 rs ago they had to travel down for about 3 weeks running and made a special visit each week even though they wasnt playing the fleet. The weather on saturday was appalling, and still they enjoyed the game.Remember the scarborough game a couple of years ago? I think on days like saturday some kind of effort should be made to accommodate these fans who have made a long journey to watch their team.I am aware that segregation is done for saftey, but why cant fleet do a simalar fence like at aldershot, so on days like this they can go for cover.I think the fleet do not do enough on the basics ie toilets, hospitality for fans, catering etc im sure others can name things too, all this i believe does contribute to some fans not bothering to come back.once again well done to york city fans.

Thanks to you Ebbsfleet fans also.

I was one of the fours fans "invited" to pop under the seggregation line and stand under the roof with you home fans when the weather became even worse in the second half.

Sorry we were unable to stay in there longer (although only three of us were removed). We understood why we were aksed to leave and had no problem with your stewards views.

Yes, we don't exactly endear oursleves to away fans for our "hospitality" during inclement weather !!

I said to one of my mates that if I was forced to stand at the Swanscombe End in that sort of weather then I would have had it away on my toes to The Plough ( or back to the Top House !) especially after going 2-0 up !

If the MyFC deal goes through after DD, I assume there is not much point in spending money on the existing ground.

Will MyFC still look to progress to a new stadium within the Borough, as per current ( or maybe not so current now !) plans ?

Cheers,

Thank's for the comments,we travel to all City's fixtures on our trusty minibus known as the Sweet Chariot. One fixture we look forward to is Fleet away, always enjoying a pint or two in the Rising Sun. Can you pass on our thanks to Barry for providing us with boiling water on Saturday so we could have a hot brew on our journey back north.

Looking forward to our next visit to the Sun.

Cheers,

I would love to know what has been done in the past about trying to get a new stadium. I believe it was said when the news broke, that the director who had been working on the stadium plan would now still be working on it. I suppose a much higher average than at present would be needed to make it viable. Too many teams have moved home and got a load of debt hanging around their neck afterwards.

Maybe at some time, we need a new stadium thread ?

In the York press today, it said that 161 York City Fans were there on Sat.

So, thats 933 - 161 = 722. Subtract the 240 MyFC who were 'definite', (we can ignore the 400+ maybe) and the grand total of 532 'proper' Fleet fans made the effort.

New stadium? Why?

Maybe, just maybe, some people are put off by wading through 3 inches of piss when they use the urinals ?

Maybe some people are put off by having no cover when the weather is sh*t ?

Maybe the ones who are undercover think that being undercover stops them getting wet ? Wrong !!

If the plans for the regeneration of Thameside are to be believed then surely a multipurpose sporting facility isn't to much to hope for in the Borough ??

The glorious few will still turn up at San Stonebridge anyway, but maybe, just maybe, others are not willing to be transported back into the 1940's on a Saturday afternoon ?

Just a thought !

Cheers,

I'd love it to be a gamble that someone would take!
