Todays Game

Although one worry could be found...conceding a goal straight after scoring...AGAIN! but overall a great game, and nice to see rob owen and macca sorting the midfield out. And i'll defend Loie Evans, he can hold up well and causes many problems for the defence. although liam does this too, if only both of them could finish...although that will come to their game when they develope as players, lets remember that both of them are only 21.

Fantastic performance yesterday from the lads !!

Felt the Morcombe forwards were, apart from being great actors, very quick and strong and early on looked like tearing us apart. Thankfully, once we began to get into our attacking stride, their service began to dry up – otherwise they could have got away from us. Another day to be thankful for having such a good keeper as Wilko. Defensively, all the changes we’ve had this season have inevitably left us vulnerable and I just hope Andy can get a backline together that can stay together, because, I think a solid defence coupled with our fantastic attacking players will make us a force to be reckoned with next season.

Like everyone else, thought the Ref was absolutely useless, far too easily influenced by the Morcombe players.

Have to side with the Evans supporters; I think he holds the ball up well, links well and is fully committed. Clearly he needs a goal at this level to settle him, but I think that when he gets it, the proverbial floodgates will open.

Two final points;

No Pennock, even on the bench and no info I’ve seen to explain why. Anyone know anything ?

Finally, all season we’ve failed to really get stuck in and play well against sides at the bottom (notably at home to Kettering) so next week the lads need to build on yesterdays performance and get the points. We need all the support we can get up there for this one.

Come on you reds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the point of complaining about Liam not sticking the ball in the net when a certain other short, lightweight, goalless centre forward who gets played more often fails to do the same thing?

The reason he has played more is that he doesn't go AWOL from training, doesn't keep 'injuring' himself at work.....

.....how's that for starters?

Liam is a luxery, i think you could safely say that defenders fear him! you have to ask yourself would you like liam hatch running at you?

as for che, che has had it hard this season, alot has been expected from him but in all fairness he hasnt done to bad! if we get behind him and take the pressure off he will be more relaxed and will be able to perform and score like he did last year.

over the past few weeks we've started to look more of a team, were spraying the ball around a bit more and are hard work is starting to pay off. im positive about it all and i think we all have to be.

Come on you Fleet!

Although Super Daz is well known for being anti-Tostao, he has really gone too far this time. "Anyone could have scored...." Get real. This was a truly fantastic goal executed with great skill. Can anyone of us hand on heart say that we have ever seen a goal scored quite like that before? Someone asked earlier to describe it. Well here goes. A Skinner corner, Liam got a touch perhaps a defender did too. Tostao jumped up high and with an audacious back heel which went like an expres train ( but obviosly not a Connex variety) smashed into the back of the net. The 'keeper tried to stop it but didn't stand a chance. Absolutely brilliant!!! Get behind all the team Darren not just the ones you like.

You have to ask yourself why we havent had a decent 25+ goalscorer during Andys time in charge. We've all expressed our opinions abt the strikeforce but as i posted very early on we cant expect in this division for the midfield to keep winning us games by scoring the goals. Yes Super Daz, we won yesterday and im as happy as anyone but im just concerned that if Bentley or Jacko gets injured or gets transferred we're going to be in trouble. The season has been a fantastic achievement by Andy and the team but we need to identify the problem areas early in the summer. Yes Louie or Liam may make it in the conference but reserve team football is probably the equiv of Ryman division 1 and its a big step up to start conference matches and score goals. Finances are thin as we know but we really need to try and sign a Boylan who surely must want to try and better himself by playing conference football. Allan Tait at Folkestone is also only 21 and has scored 15 goals in a poor Folkestone outfit this season. Louie Evans also 21 has potential but was only making the bench for Hitchin this season in an equivalent division before dropping down to play for Tilbury. I agree we need to keep these players i.e Liam or a Louie but Andy has got it wrong for so many seasons now in the striker area and unfortunately these lads end up being thrown in at the deep end after only a couple of games at the club and then have to suffer the flak that comes with being a first team player. Perhaps we need to bring a striker coach in as something is not right. Neither Andy, Phil or Ron have been strikers in there time and Boothy cant stop scoring at Welling !!

As for not liking Tostao - were you there when we lost to Erith & Belvedere in the Kent Cup? At the end Tostao looked absolutely gutted - I was the first to call out to him 'chin up son' with a thumbs up - which the guy acknowledged back.

Get your facts right - I simply believe that Tostao isn't the 'footballing god' that some of you think he is.
Other fans out there actually share this view too.
He has talent, but one man doesn't win games every week.

What pisses me off is hearing these so-called 'know it alls' slagging Andy off on the terraces just because Tostao isn't playing - trust me, we hear it.

The simple fact is any attacking player worth his salt would have scored in that position.

FOR THE RECORD:
I.C.@G&NFC will back me up on this - I have always said that I would like to see Tostao in the middle of the park,as a forward, taking on the last defender and banging the ball into the net. Whilst he can cross the ball he can also 'skin' a player. Does that make me anti-Tostao?

Oh and I like the connex touch - any other ways you want to try and have a pop?

Let's discuss your role of employment and I'm sure we'll find something to take the p*** out of.

If you don't like my opinions then tough - but at least it is bringing debate and discussion to this forum.
Something you seem to be unable to do without slagging off other supporters.

Oh and it's spelt 'obviously'.

I too have to question why so many people seemed to feel that Evans is poor and wont make the grade - he did well on Saturday - held the ball up well and played some good pases to set up attacks as well.

Half the trouble is that we put pressure on all our forwards from the moment they make the team - everyones expectations are that they will score goals galore, and in most cases, it wont happen (unless that is, we are able to splash out a five figure sum for an experienced goalscorer with a proven track record, which we clearly aren't)

As Super Daz says, football is a TEAM game, and ultimately, it doesnt matter whether goals come from the front men, the midfield, or even defenders, as long as they come. It certainly keeps the opposition guessing when they have numerous potential goalscorers in the team.

Lets not forget that we are still among the top half dozen scoring teams in the league, despite the fact that we dont have a 20 goal a season man in the team.(And there aren't many of those around anyway).

And, if we tighten our defence, then life will be easier for our forwards - if you're conceding goals in each and every game you play, theres obviously added pressure on the forwards to score - after all, even conceding 1 goal, means you need 2 to win. I'm sure the forwards must go out thinking, "We must take this chance" and that can only make the problem worse.

Indeed, I think that you have hit the nail on the head.

Thought I'd add my tuppence worth too....I can't understand why Louie keeps coming in for stick when I think he looks a decent player.

He does show some nice touches, lays it off well, makes intelligent runs (aside from blocking Benno's shot in the 2nd half but we'll overlook that!) good control and can actually look up whilst he has the ball at his feet.......please note Liam!!

I actually think Andy got it spot on Saturday....that's as close as possible to my ideal starting line-up and that's exactly how I'd utilise the various talents of Tostao and Liam.

Throw Tostao and Liam on for the last 30 mins. Allow Tos to tear the tiring fullback apart from the wing and deliver the crosses that Liam has the ability to get his head onto.

To clarify the earlier comment, Liam does have numerous qualities: good in the air, tireless, always running down defenders and blocking clearances with his telescopic legs, but sadly, vision is not one of them..Lift your head a little Liam, you'll see there's a whole world out there around you....or maybe just someone in a better position than you to score..

I like your points RE Tostao and Beast. Have them on for the last 30mins, when players injured want a new thing by all means start him, but he is mesmerising when he comes off the bench for the last bit.

I'l add my bit for Louie. i think he is the genuine bit of young talent we need at the club, he will improve with games and i dont think hes that bad at the moment anyway. The one thing I would say is the singing for Andy is spot on, let him choose the team, let us encourage it!!!!

They're not new either. My brother and I have been bleating on about this all season (generally to each other but also to anyone who'll listen to us bore the cr*p out of them - ie work colleagues) and I know that he posted these views on here months ago....
But we definitely need to get behind the team as a whole and certainly not single out players who're having a bad game....some of the comments I've heard aimed at Che in recent games have been terrible - and audible to him too - so cut it out!!
If you can do any better, pull on your boots, turn up for training and hope to get a game, if not shut the fork up and offer your vocal support to players in the red & white....failing that , sod off to Welling.

Agree this was indeed a great match.

Thought Louis was a tad disappointing, but he and Che certainly gave, the opposition something to think about.

Big man at the back looked great, and after a shakey start Justin, did some great tackles, ( should never have been booked).

Benno certainly man of the match, although Jacko put in another great performance, especially when you think he must have had Holland on his mind.

Spoke to some of the Morecame fans after the match, who agreed we certainly has shocked them , they thought it was a three point certainty. The Morecambe players looked gutted after the game, and I was surprised how tall and big they were, when you consider how easily they fell over all match.

Thought the Ref was a joke, as were most of his decisions. the linesman also could not keep up with play, perhaps we just have to face it, win or lose, the officials are usually c..p.

Great to see Macca, Benno, Rob and Jacko in midfield, looked very much like last season. and certainly played well together, But then they always did!!

Blimey SD, I would hate to get on the wrong side of you if I had actually said anything offensive!I had thought of just ignoring your response but I have to make a few points.

1. The Kent Senior Cup exit. I was at this game too, one of the 268. I didn't see your jesture but good on you if you did. I have to say that some of our supporters were actually calling for E&B to win to avoid extra time being played!

2.I don't believe that any player is a "god" but give him his due Tostao is a hard working and highly skilled player.

3.I agree that this is a team game and I have never advocated otherwise.

4.I am not and never have been in the "slagging off" Andy Ford brigade. He has been a revalation for this club.

5.You still refuse to give TK the recognition he deserves for his goal.To be fair to you you may not have seen it in all it's glory from behind the goal. From the Stonebridge Road side it was pure brilliance.

6.When did I ever mention your job/occupation? It was you who revealed who your employer is. I don't know why. You do of course call yourself "the strar striker of Connex". For the record I was trying to describe the speed with which Tostao backheeled the ball into the net without resorting to military analogies which would be tateless at this point in time. A fast train seemed somehow appropriate. So don't accuse me of having" a pop" at you . The reference to Connex who I travel with every day is accurate. It is a well known fact that the rail journey to London to Gravesend and vice versa is slower now than in the 1930s. However I mostly blame the Tories for underfunding the railways and the stupid idea of privatisation.

7. Your reply to Bernard's posting was quite extraordinary. What evidence do you have of accusing Liam Hatch of faking injury? That is what you are saying isn't it? Isn't this an example of double standards? "Slagging off" a player while condemning others of doing so? Don't try and hide behind this simply being your " style". Being aggressive to other members just because you don't agree with their point of view just isn't constructive.
