Town vs Utd

Recommended Posts

I'll drive over to Bedford on Wednesday lunchtime and have a walk over the pitch to see if it requires an inspection or not. Hopefully it will be on, but no big deal either way really.

The fact is that the fixture is now a bit of a non event because the league determined this for a midweek date. They even put it down for a Tuesday knowing full well we play on a Wednesday, meaning that teletext and papers have it now advertised for the wrong day. How Bigg Town v Bigg Utd (and vice versa) is not a banker of a Saturday fixture is beyond me. I frankly despair.

I nearly wet myself reading that. Travelling? In this league? You don't know the meaning of the word.

It's a town derby match for pity's sake. It's about a big crowd, an atmosphere, a chance for a club to earn a few bob, NOT about effing bleedin travelling. You'd think the league may try and help their clubs wouldn't you?

For me, this game now means little. Why should we get all worked up over something that the league relegates to midweek on literally one of the worst dates of the year possible to attract a crowd. Where's the incentive to get the kids along when they schedule the town derby for a Wednesday school night in early December. Someone is having a laugh at our expense.

I was going to do proper advertising, free scarves for kids, half time entertainment, big build up in local press....but all shelved. What's the point when the league tie one arm behind your back?

I now expect a bumper crowd of around 65. 15 of which will be from the league!

Travelling indeed!

(no offence to you StevieG, but this whole thing has really made my blood boil).

Understand exactly what your saying there, just think thats probably the reasoning the league would give! Not that i'd agree with them, would make much more sense to have it on a saturday when the new ground was open! Shame it couldnt have been the first game there, would have been a good spectacle

I have expressed my views on fixtures in this league several times already. This is one of the very worst examples, and, like Wader, I think it beggars belief! I wonder how the Colney's got to play their game on a Saturday? A crowd of almost 100 attended, proving the point that local derbies should (if they can't be played on Boxing Day or Easter Monday) be played on a Saturday!!

You have to look forwards and Kempster is predicting that Bigg Town, Bigg Utd and Langford will be moved to the UCL next season. I'll put in a word for Hertford with the ESL if you like - a brilliantly run league, great characters always there to help, always at the end of a phone, always willing to listen and always wanting the very best for all their clubs.

Not convinced that TK is correct with that prediction. SSMFL may well be short enough without mass exports to the UCL.

Don't think we could play in Essex every week, even if the league is superbly run! Beyond the pale!

Ironically, when we were cast adrift by the Ryman, a faction at the club wanted us to go for the ESL, as they saw it as an easier league to win, and, tellingly you play with a safety net - no relegation.

Too many clubs with money to burn in that league for my liking though - AFC Hornchurch etc. Enfield 1893 will be unstoppable this year (wage bill which would see them all right in Ryman Prem). Next year there will be another for sure....

The ESL have been used and abused by The FA over the years. I would say that a few clubs have come through with money as you say, but with your tidy little budget you would cream the opposition in a normal season. Access to the Ryman as well instead of the dreaded BGB farce.

Don't care what the league is called, so long as it doesn't have Essex or Senior in the name!

EDF are involved. Anything can happen. Although they do start to dig up the road out front tomorrow....allegedly. Can't see powering up till Tuesday next week if I'm honest.
