The England debate...... part 657

Something I noticed at the weekend. Chelsea were playing long balls up to Drogba to flick on to Cole and Lampard who were running on beyond Drogba.

England played long balls up to Crouch and when he flicked them on Cole and Lampard never ran on, just stayed firmly fixed in their midfield positions.

Reminds of when John Barnes played for England, give him a ball outwide for Liverpool or Watford and he would go on and skin the full back. Give him the same ball for England and would just play it back in to the midfield.

It must be an England thing not to express yourself as you do for your club?

Also what about the hoofing the ball out quickly from the back debate. We are all guility (me included) or wanting our team to do that as ESL level, cause we are so frightend of our defenders getting caught in possesion. However at International level we cry out for our defenders to take the ball forward and pass it about. If we dont encourage it right at the roots of our game how will it ever develop at the top? I suppose not many budding young stars go via the ESL?
