SWEARING BY PLAYERS AND MANAGERS

AS I TRAVEL around to three or four games at week i can make comparison to the swearing habits in various leagues. The Sussex league is the best with their "NO TOLERANCE LAW" because as soon as somebody swears the referees give them a warning and also the managers who are often the worst at swearing. The worst league i found was the ESL and when after a game i asked a referee "does the swearing law not exist in your league?"he replied,"IT'S A MAN'S GAME AND I CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT".Well, hello, why can't he approach the players before the game and tell them that swearing gets the player a caution and a second offence a red card. After the success of the Women's English National team in the World Cup one can expect more women and children to attend football games, but no decent mother is going to take a child again when they hear the constant barrage of the F-word and, worse of all,the C-word.Surely football clubs are losing potential gate money by allowing the swearing to continue and clubs should ask the referee before the game to curb the language on the pitch and the club likewise control languages on the terraces.

Well, dear LEAGUE CHAIRMAN,we have a case to answer here.My proposal is:a no swearing day this coming saturday...ehm only in English tough! grinNobody understands me when i'm muttering obscenities in italian! alk

I think she has point tough.Swearing at club officials should be curbed. How many times we see players around that referee for every decision?Only the captain should be allowed to speak to him.We should have a good look at ourselves and set the the example, starting from saturday.Perhaps we should look at the Sussex League and their no tolerance. frown

Well, education begins at home!Do you swear like that in your work place as well?Referees deserve constructive critics and understanding.Last saturday at Barkingside i have seen a referee losing the plot in the last 20 minutes simply by sheer and vocal pressure from everyone around him, after getting some decisions wrong.we have to search everyone's conscience, from the managers, fans and players. frown

no i don't but then i don't really care about how well work goes as long as i get paid, i understand the desire for football to be a clean sport but in reality its never gonna happen, players and officals will always get carried away by emotion, the only problem is swearing directly at officals, other than that let it go.

So how do we encourage families to attend games with that sort of approach, or do you see Saturday afternnons as a "bloke" thing that wife's and kid's attend at their peril?

There is a difference, at work and at home the people around you earn your respect and speak to you in an appropriate manor.

Unfortunately the refs in the ESL demand respect and then speak to you like your are below them.

I dont necessarily argee with swearing all the time, but this would have to be a 2 way thing....I asked the ref on Saturday how long left and he replied "I dont have to tell you, as stated in Section 17"...how do you not swear at someone who speaks you you like that..!!?
