Whoops! I thought that would get a response. Not very good at P.R. work is he?

To be fair I think he just says whatever he feels at the time & with the amount of youngsters out there I think thats what he was probably referring to.The actual overall form of those out there was actually more than fair.A bit of naivity by them at times maybe but thats to be expected too.Again maybe thats what Trotty was referring to also.

He should think twice though before he speaks out I must admit,

especially to the media. It can be misconstrued so easily.

Last week it was the fans he attacked & this week its the reserves.I'd be very surprised if he didn't issue another apology to the lads in the same way that he did for the fans.I'm sure he dosen't MEAN to offend in the way that its said.

The media are always of course looking for a story. So if they hear / see something in what Robin says that sound a bit controversial, that's the bit they will and have in the past focused on. My sense of interviewing him last Tuesday was that he was genuinely surprised at how his comments (about the Maidstone game) were taken out of context. Trying to avoid this kind of stuff is pretty tricky, particularly when one of the reasons you engage the media is to help promote (in this case) the club. They tend to be pretty good at keeping to their agenda and not reporting everything that is said and not referring to the context.

Having said all that, I'm bound to have shot myself in the foot with my own journalistic efforts!

More to the point, there will come a time when the directors get rather tired of apologising on someones behalf.

You get a bit of a reputation for cocking things up and it sticks-probably unfairly, but it sticks just the same .

The odd thing is that most of us seem to feel the team played ok on Tuesday. In terms of the players out there, i don't think they could have played much better-that is the level of their ability, and the results accurately reflect that-we are mid table ability so we will win a few, lose a few and draw a few.

I think also, to be fair, he did not attack the fans last week. If you read his comments you will see that.

What he said was:

“Yes, well quiet. Some parts I thought Maidstone were at home but that’s what they’re about,” said Trott.

“They’ve had hard times in the past, we’ve had hard time as well but yes, there was a lot of Maidstone fans here weren’t there?"

Where is the inaccuracy in that? There were a lot of Maidstone fans, and they were very noisy, and we were quiet. I thought so too. It was the Kentish Football Site bloke that said Trotty had said the home support was poor, not Trotty. Same interview was in the local paper.

It is up to the journos, they twist it about to make good copy. They thrive on setting a tone that will be controversial with the readers because it gets everyone going and sells more rags.

Well he apologised for it June so I assumed it WAS he who made the comment. No matter either way,its done & dusted now.

He apologised if what he said caused any offence, was how I read it.

Just thought I would set the record straight, otherwise it just gets repeatedly regurgitated every time a slagging off occurs, and if it is said enough times, people will believe it is so whether it is or not.

Hardly fair, and I think it does matter.

You're quite right June - it was in my interview with him that he said that.

I continue to be a bit sceptical of other media outlets (other than live stuff) - and I include the beeb as well as Kentish Football. Even on www.margate-fc,com you might get a particular perspective from the extratcts of the interviews that go into reports and news items, from that you would get if you listened to the full recorded interview. Of course, I reckon that's OK because my editorial approach is to take an appreciative perspective and not to just "sell" stories.

It does'nt matter to the supporters on this forum what Trotty said because its not about them.

On the other hand the players he refered to have taken this as a total insult and you will see this tomorrow when most will snub the Xmas do and some probably wont play or be available for first team selection when asked. To say his comments are taken out of context does'nt wear with most anymore he has done it far to often.

Its about time he learnt his lesson and just kept his mouth shut. if he hasnt got anything constructuive to say dont say it in public say it to the players concerned in private

The choir are doing as good a job as we can with limited voices, it would be a great help if some more voices came in to help us out. You don't have to join in with our silly songs, but if you could join in with the songs that get behind the team then that would be a great help.
