Canterbury City having been reformed play on the recreation ground at Bridge. They are totally amateur, cannot charge an entry fee and have been playing since September in the bottom division of the Kent County league. They are top of their division having only lost one game. The standard of the team is the equivalent of Margate Reserves. Some of you may have seen the two friendlies with Margate at Hartsdown. They have also played a preseason friendly agaainst a higher club at Whitstable. On this occasion Whitstable signed one of Canterbury's midfielders. Following Margate's last friendly with Canterbury one of Margate's officials was at the Bridge recreation ground watching Canterbury's next game. One of Canterbury's players was seen on Youtube scoring an overhead kick. His name is Royston Gough. Wayne Fittal is Canterbury's leading goalscorer. They do try and play attractive passing football which can be made difficult against some of the more physical teams in their division. After the friendly against Margate Reserves the Canterbury players did say they enjoyed not being kicked every time they had the ball and that Margate reserves like themselves really wanted to play attractive football. I would add finally that there is a huge gulf between being able to play well in the lowest division of the Kent County league and the Ryman Premier.
