Trying to clarify the situation...

As previously stated on this message board, SSFC have an annual end of season game at Clarence Park. As with the last 2 years, it was originally thought that the opposition would be EFM. After discussion with various members of SSFC, it was thought, given the current 'strained' relations between EFM and the chairman that this may not be a viable option for reasons that will be explained below. The club is donating a kit to SSFC for next season, so in order not to jeopordise this and possibly ostricise our own club we thought it may be better to seek alternative opposition. As a result, several alternatives were discussed. Firstly, we were going to play against Rayner Essex, who we played 3 or 4 years ago. They however could not raise a team. Secondly, we thought of having a match between ourselves, however this choice was also discarded. There was also a suggestion of another team linked to a members work, then the idea of inviting John Gibson to raise a team was put forward. This was thought to be the best solution. Contact was made with Mr Gibson and the idea suggested. Response from him was positive, so this was taken to training on Tuesday and confirmed. True, not everyone at SSFC was consulted, however given that we have finished our season and have only a couple of training sessions left, it was felt a decision was needed sooner rather than later so that everyone could be informed in plenty of time. The above discussions were not held between 1 or 2 of us who have an interest in the club as alleged, it was between 6 or 7. When taken to training on Tuesday, disappointment was expressed at not playing EFM at The Park but given the circumstances explained above this was considered by all present to be the best option. SSFC still want to play EFM and want to arrange the fixture over the coming week or so if possible. Venues / dates etc can be discussed. Hopefully this clarifies what has become a mountain out of a molehill. Feel free to come and chat to me, Nick, Greg etc on Saturday. Please don't think there are any great political reasons behind the decision, it is merely as explained above!!

After all, it would be a bit chilly playing in skins....

Hi Brew.

Nothing to do with me any of this, but well done for that open and forthright explanation. All in all a triumph of economics over principles. For oil, read shirts.

Just one small word of advice.

It might be a good idea to make public copies of the minutes of the various meetings to which you refer in order to avoid any suggestion of impropriety. Not from me, you understand. Your word is absolutely good enough for me but there are one or two sceptics about on here.

Hi AFF. Thanks for the kind comments. Unfortunately we live in a world where often economics triumph over principles for varying reasons. Utopian ideals we would all love to keep, but when it's minus 3 and you're wearing a short sleeve shirt that's been through the mill, principles go out the window!

As for the discussions and making them public, I can extract the 200 or so emails referring to it from various PC's but I'd hope people will be like yourself and understand that I am trustworthy enough not to make it all up. I have no reason to.

Is there a game tomorrow??

Cheers Brew, for clearing that up. I understand why you did it, but must admit I am a little disappointed. Nevertheless - EFM can still play our part. Maybe a pitch invasion! The odd cider can lob! Followed, quite possibly, with a few ejections!!

Anyway, no hard feelings on my part (towards SS, that is). See you tomorrow!

Oh, I did a search on goldfish memories too, by the way. One site reckoned 6 seconds, so we were both wrong! (But I was closer!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> )

Surely a simple question to John Gibson, such as 'we are allowed to play EFM for our annual match, aren't we?' would have solved any questions that arise now. Surely his opinion, as to the suitability of EFM playing in the match, is the most important opinion of all to be sought. He could've ended the matter there and then, with a question, rather than guessing that he wouldn't like it.

Why did Gazza stop in Euro 96 when if he'd of carried on we'd have beaten the Germans?

Why did we not bother to kill off Saddam 12 years ago?

Why does the bar continue to stock Jalepeno Pepper crisps when no one buys them?

The benefit of hindsight is a wonderful thing GHA, but point taken.

ps Good to be back.

OI Zeal. Surely MAD needs to turn up to a training or two before he's allowed to play. Come to think of it, we should have a training session. Do you reckon we could train on the Clarence Park pitch? Unlikely, seeing as the First XI aren't allowed to. Do you reckon Cookie would be willing to take a session?

Its only a bit of fun.

You obviously weren't around for the first ever EFM - SS match. You did not, therefore, obtain a copy of the match programme.

Page 7. 'Captain's Comments,' with Anthony Costello. The sub-headline is, and I quote:

Quote:
"The term 'friendly' is unknown in the EFM dictionary."

That puts paid to your 'bit of fun' idea.

I could reproduce the whole of the programme contents for the aforementioned match on this board, but I doubt public demand will be too high.
