Three things immediately jump out at me after reading that statement:

1. Why are we prepared to promote from within yet again?! I think it's fair to say most fans are against this idea.

2. Why are we giving until 14th December for applications? That's nearly 3 weeks, I was hoping we'd have a new manager in place within a couple of weeks at the very most.

3. Surely we should have people in mind to approach for the job, or maybe even done some 'prep' work knowing it's been on the cards for a while now?

I agree with Glen about points 2 and 3, but with regards to 1. What happens if your applicants are worse than who you currently have in place?

Personally I wouldn't class Betts and Barnard as "promoting from within" as they have only been at the club for this season, unlike Wilko, West et al who were associated with the club for the past 10years.

1. Mark has taken on the role as a caretaker position and as a thank you for stepping forward on Tuesday night in extremely difficult circumstances, he deserves a lot of praise. He has already contacted a number of players to attend training this evening and is working hard to get a squad on the pitch for Saturday. The other benefit is neither Mark nor Richard are from the Martyn Deaner era and have their own ideas on taking the playing side upwards.

2. To advertise the position in the non league press for two weeks, that's two Sundays. We're allowing ourselves time to find the best candidate for the job.

3. Darron resigned on Tuesday morning unexpectedly. How that has been on the cards for some time, I don't know. We've done everything we can to support Darron during his time as manager and do feel a little disappointed at the timing of his resignation, but do wish him all the best for his future.

I imagine 14 December is related to the publication on the non-league paper. It may be too late to have got the advert into the paper this week and so if the advert isn't published until 7 Dec, a week after that would make sense.

That said I was hoping for things to be a bit quicker than that, but I shouldn't imagine there are hundreds of people chomping at the bit to apply for this position right now!

Betts and Barney is a good short term measure as we do need people in temporary charge. Quite what the team sheet will look like on Saturday is anyones guess

We will confirm this evening after training, but we are expecting a few departures.

That said, we've already got two youth players signed up with two more to follow tonight, in addition to around eight to ten other more established players who are keen to join and will be at training this evening.

We have a seven day approach in for a player in this division who we understand is keen to join us, but we need to adhere to the seven day ruling, so they, should they join, would not be available until the 8th December at the earliest.

Gary, have you actually spoken to the club concerned as some clubs will release before the 7 days are up provided they've received the official notification?

Also I left a message for you on your answerphone last week re the Boxing Day game kick off time, can you get back to me asap please as the notice has to be with the league by Monday.

Gary, regarding point 3 of my post, I meant with the dismal run we're on it was obvious Wilko had to either resign or be sacked pretty soon. So a replacement should have been on your mind and discussed as to who targets may be. Ok I retract regarding Betts and Barnard as they are new to the club, although I'd still would want an experienced manager at this or a higher level.
