Comments on Boreham Wood game

I am very dissapointed with todays performance, it was pretty poor really. There was not urgency in the team what so ever and when we went 2-1 down it looked as if we were settling for a defeat. Everytime we go 1-0 we drop off, which is why we keep conceding imo. We have become boring and predictable (probably why we are not watched anymore) as we just hoof the ball up to Haworth or pinnock, we don't take advantage of the wings what so ever.

There wasn't a player that really stood out for tonight and yest again the midfield we disspointing. We created very little today and did not look a threat really and the only time Trott decided to change things was right at the end. I think the first sub was round the 80th minute mark, which is pathetic.

I've said this so many times this season, which is we are not playing to our full potential.

By the looks of things we are going to have a boring mid-table season, which our form suggests.

Overall very dissapointed

A mid-table position was what most of us had settled for at the beginning of the season, due to the reduced budget and difficulties in getting new players in. So on current form a middle of the table side is what we seem to have at the moment (things can change, hopefully). But I have to say that those who Booed the team off the pitch last night went over the top in my personal opinion.

Well I though we did okay.I've certainly seen a lot worse from our team.We HAVE to mention the loss of key players & that we had a lot of youth out there tonight. We werent beaten easily, though why their third goal was disallowed goodness knows.

We started well, though we scored against the run of play admittedly.

Again we fail miserably in defence almost immediately. Naive marking from a corner, the goal we scored was almost identical(though theirs was from a corner & not from a cracking cross into the box from young Martin) to Pinns goal in that the cross wasn't dealt with & both Pinns & their player had ample time to plant their headers into the net.

Second half we were forcing the pace & having territorial advantage without looking threatening. They were happy it seemed to sit back & play for the draw. Their second goal came against the run of play also & they then went close again a few times. We lacked ideas but on the day there wasn't much between the two sides in truth.

The one player who DID stand out was again young Peters at full back.. Showing different class to all the rest of the players on the field. Coleman looks like he could do with a game or two under his belt before we see him make his mark. The two youngsters on the left did well together & young Martin delivered a pin-pint cross for the goal, well directed & well weighted.

Morris sat too deep & mainly just booted the ball out of defence at every opportunity. He should have pushed up more i.m.o.

Scott delivered an almost kamikaze throw out at one point. The two lads at the heart of defence were not on form last night.Gave away too many silly free-kicks.

We were beaten but not by much. Boreham Wood werent no great shakes & if we would have had the FULL squad out there I'm positive we would have seen a different result from last night.

Not sure the performance warranted the boos at the end but I can understand the frustration of the fans. We seem unable to produce any kind of consistency and seem to have lost the cutting edge up front(badly missing Charlie Side). The defensive frailties have been there all season unfortunately although we are definitely missing Justins experience on the left side. At least Trotty has tried to do something about it by bringing in good players like Martin and Coleman whom is more than an able deputy for Saunders and another left back and I have been impressed with Peters and hope that his loan spell can be extended to season long? With a settled side free from injuries ans suspensions we will still be a force but that scenario never happens with us! The most worrying thing for me are the falling attendances and the impact this will have on players morale and on sustaining their budget. Will some players have to be released?

I thought margate played with alot of commitment and energy last night.

Could not fault the effort.

result was just about right, and in reality with the lack of real quality, could not expect much else,so no disgrace to team or manager.

Highlights to me were the impeccable Peters.

I thought Lovegrove did very well for a 17 yr old at left back.Sound defensively which is the main thing-final ball not special, but at least he can do his main job.

I though Morris was excellent-if he continuews to progress at this rate,MFC have a real star on their hands. He put Mckimm in the shade with his performance, but Macca will come good again.

We lacked the really telling/creative pass that Dean Standen can provide occasionally.

Young was more than ok.

Have to say was a bit disappointed in Martin-one great cross for goal but otherwise went missing a bit.

Coleman carried on where he left off at Staines ,but i'm sure he can do better once settled in again.

mom for me-Morris-just above Peters.

Not too disappointed-we played to our level(which is not very special)but with such a young and unsettled side-we can't expect much else imo.

Just trust we can hold on to a mid table position, and the signings are medium term and provide a base for nextr season.

Still got to get that central defeneder though,or we will be in trouble .Rubbish marking and static at the corner;although had Scott ought to have come and attacked it ?

In the abscence of a really good central defender to play alongside Young, maybe RT needs to have one of his midfield players play deeper in front of back 4 to protect the defence .

A shield between midfield and defence to stop the breakaways for their 2nd and '3rd' goals.Sacrifice one of the flanks in favour of that.

At risk of becoming a bit of Morris fan (I wanted to get minor in there but gave up quickly!) I thought he had a nother good game as well. Got forward a couple of times later in the game and went close to scoring. I'd be intrested to see him alongside Jay in the centre of the midfield. For me, he is our most improved player so far this season.

I agree also with that summing up of the player. Believe me I am a "big" fan of his & if he were THAT good last night I would be raving about him. Fact was he wasn't THAT good last night. Another who was not on form last night was McKimm. In fact he was even worse than Morris last night. Couldn't control a ball all night, made several wayward passes & generally didnt get stuck in. I suppose I will be disagreed upon with that comment too!.
Dunno about some of you but I look at the player over the full 90 minutes.Maybe thats why we differ in our opinions.

I don't think its hard to do at all Alan.As most will know I walk the ground most of the night specifically to look at things, looking at players, their positioning etc from different angles, different positions. Errors made reguarly are always noticeable anyway,no matter where you are standing.Of course these two made a few good passes & a few good runs. All of the players probably did that within the 90 minutes but overall some made more errors than they did good things & in my eyes these two were the main culprits.

Hopefully they will be back to their good form of before on Saturday & we will see a different team out there because of that.

I more agree with your earlier implication of the subjectivity in assessing an individual's performance by a number of different people so I'm not sure I go with "the fact was he wasn't that good ....". Of course what we don't know is what instructions each player has before the game and how they change during a game. Louis is one that has "suffered" from that at times when playing at left back. And Kieron for that matter at right back.

Still, makes for a good debate.
