Jeff, I think part of it surely is, as you put it, 'a touch of the Big Ronisms'. When he insulted Marcel Desailly as he did, the word 'n*gger' was presumably the cause of the most outrage, however the addition of 'thick' and 'lazy' to this made his ridiculous racism more vehement. The 'lazy' tag also reminds me of a comment made by Gareth Southgate in the World Cup about Trinidad's players being 'relaxed', like their national counterparts. National stereotyping is never welcome and such a comment merely fuels the fire of people summing up a black player's game with that one word - 'lazy'.

As far as I recall the reference to Nade being lazy in the Woking game was not a generalisation but was made with reference to a specific instance where he was caught offside. Having been involved in an attack and the ball having been cleared the defenders came out and he trailed behind them. The ball came back in and although he was onside when he received it he came back from an offside position when the ball was played which could have been avoided, hence the comment.
