No relegation this yr......Fleet safe it may seem.

I fully agree - if Stevenage are behind this, it is outrageous that they cannot take their seemingly impending relegation on the chin like all other clubs would. If the FA has any sense, it will reject the proposal, for as Super Daz rightly states, you simply cannot change the rules like this well into the league season.

Stevenage are well aware that with so many teams still in with a chance of going down this season, they had a chance of securing a majority, and so it has proved. You can't blame teams for voting in favour if you consider the financial implications of relegation, but the whole thing stinks to be honest.

I think the disgraceful nature of the move is demonstrated quite clearly by the fact that even we, supporters of a side who could still go down, object to the plans.

P.S. As Dave's message about the FA statement confirms, the FA haven't reached a decision yet and may not do so for a while, so let's hope that we can defeat Morecambe tomorrow and attempt to seal our place in the Conference by fair means, and not (in Stevenage's case, it seems) foul ones.

Perhaps the FA are waiting a couple of weeks to see how Stevenage get on in their next couple of games. If they manage to move out of the relegation zone, they might not change things. But if they struggle, they might then change the rules.

This all smells a little fishy to me! First the FA ignore The whole Farnboro/Stevenage thing, and now this.

If they want to increase the conf to 24 clubs from next season how about promoting two extra clubs instead with the bottom three still relegated?

The two second placed teams with the highest points tally from the Ryman, DM and Unibond could be promoted, and yes I know that would probably mean promotion for Canvey but I'd rather see that than teams staying in the conf through some shady underhand deal. Can anyone at Stevenage give any good reason why not?

Generally in line with financial resources though as well, I thought.

I've just read the article in NLP and it is quite unbelievable.... is there nothing that Westley cannot get away with..??

Let's hope karma is working here and he'll receive his come-uppance in a suitably fitting, evil and malevolent fashion....

PS Anyone else note the comment from 'Kent Boy' about lets give the 4th Champions League spot to whatever position Stevenage finish....? Glorious!!

Its that wonderful source - the NLP !! (so in other words, its probably wrong!) - in the article on Page 4, it clearly says Phil Wallace put forward the proposal "which needs to be agreed by the FA's National Leagues Sanctions Committe at their meeting in May ".

Since the season ends on 28 April (other than play offs), that puts it after the end of the season !!

And incidentally - as for Accrington's ground not being up to scratch, their website strongly denies this and says the ground was brought up to Conference standard 2 years ago, and that they are now working to bring it up to League standard they are adamant that they will gain promotion to the Conference if they win the Unibond league.

Well if Phil wallace said it it must be true, and if it isn't he will change the rules to ensure that it is.

Rather than rely on second hand information, may I suggest that you read the FA's Statement on their website which I linked earlier, that will tell you everything you need to know about the size of the conference and about Conference Div 2 (which does have to be ratified in May)

I note our club's representatives voted in favour .
Also the division in votes generally is in line with the clubs' current league position so all this thread is somewhat glasshouse-ish .

So it seems did all the relegation threatened clubs, now there's a suprise! An old phrase about turkeys not voting for christmas comes to mind! I was planning on going to Kettering but if we're 'safe' already I don't think I'll bother, the whole thing stinks and the club chairmen who voted to avoid relegation by default should hang the heads in shame, they're no better than Westley!
