My list is compiled mainly of reading old match programmes, but this part about Dave Emerick is interesting.

On my list the manager for the season 1983/84 and 1986/87 is missing. Should Emerick be on one or both of these seasons?

The list as it is now is as follows:

1969-1978 John Newman
1978-1979 Colin Searle (Replaced Newman in november 1978)
1979-1980 Paddy Betson
1980-1981 John Newman & Steve Bone (joint managers)
1981-1983 Andy McDermid
1983-1984 Missing (Emerick?)
1984-1986 Peter Burton
1986-1987 Missing (Emerick?)
1987-1990 Brian Moffat
1990-1991 Peter Brabook
1991-2000 John Kendall

If you have any input for those two missing seasons, and everything before 1969, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

What year did BTFC start issuing programmes?

If anyone has the first one I'd love to feature it on the site.

That is also a interesting question! The oldest Billericay-programme I have in my collection is from 1.2.75. (Actually I think I have one from 1974 too, but I couldn't find it now).

Billericay Town - Witham Town. We where league leaders at that time. The team was Steve Griffiths, Steve Rogers, John Pullen, Arthur Coughlan, Lester Foreman,Peter Diver, John Geddes, Ricky McQueen,Freddie Clayden, Geoff Aslett, Steve Bone..

Subs where Micky Payne and Dave Wallace.

Shirts blue with red/white diagonal band, shorts and socks blue.

The program is only four pages (one single sheet folded) and only in black and white with typewriter written tables and teams.

Looks like I'm heading up in the loft again ! I will delve into my progs collection to find out the manager for 1986-7, I am pretty sure Emerick only had one spell in charge. And I think I might have a 1973-74 issue if not earlier. Def got nothing pre 70's from the Olympian era.

Thanks to Jim Hall for the following;

"I believe I have some answers regarding past managers as mentioned on the Fans Focus - 1983 Micky Pincott

1985 Dave Emerick ( Jimmy Greaves Best Man) was Assistant Manager in his first term with the club.

Managers before John Newman were Peter Trott - Don Hills - The late Roy Ham (later Chairman)and the late Terry Farrell (?)"

And now the absolutely fascinating bit nostalgia fans ! Found my very first competitive BTFC programme and it was for an Essex Senior League match v Maldon Town on 1st September 1973. The notes included the news that we had lost three players who were later to return and become future Vase heroes - Fred Clayden to Leytonstone and both John Geddes and Ricky McQueen to ilford. Also stated was that John Pullin would be unavailable for the large part of the season having returned to college and Steve Bone would be committed to playing cricket till mid-September ! New signings included "Danny Westwood - teenage front runner from Ilford Premier League side Mayfield, who last season notched fifty goals"

This last paragraph also made me smile :

"Finally, something like 70% of the famed "BILLERICAY TOWN CHOIR" are either on summer holiday or away on their annual golf weekend. Support has further been weakened by two family weddings within the club so for this opening game we are a little thin on the ground from last year's regular supporters."

How times change ! Maybe an "apologies for absence" page could be a new feature in our current programme ? LOL

BTFC Team : Barry Willson, Micky Payne, Arthur Coughlan, Ray Pook, Roy Engwell, Alan Reed, Steve Knowles, Mick "The Tank" Maxwell (that's what it said!), Dave Wallace, Danny Westwood, Peter Diver, Pat Garrett (sub)

And also, I found my first EVER Billericay programme which dates from Sunday March 14th 1971 and was for a "Top Ten XI" v BTFC. According to my dad's notes (I was only nine then!) Ed "Stewpot" Stewart and David Hamilton from Radio One played alongside various cast members from TV & stage shows like Z Cars, Dixon Of Dock Green and Hair. Alan Whitehead & Junior Campbell of Marmalade, Brian Poole of the Tremeloes and Dave Dee (but not Dozy, Beaky, Mick or Tich...) were also listed in the squad but didn't play, as was the late John Peel. Ricay's team included Peter White and Alan Monaghan along with Engwell, Pook & Wallace who featrued against Maldon in that first game of 73-74 mentioned above. Fascinating eh ???

Great info! I don't suppose you have any information about which seasons the pre-Newman managers worked? I think maybe Terry Farrell could have been in the late fifties, and that he actually was a playing manager, because in a team picture from 1957 which I got from the son of one of the players, Farrell is listed as captain/manager if I remember correct.

Nitetime Neil, what you have is priceless a great source of information and i hope if it hasn,t already, finds a place in the program, i am sure the Billericay fans like my self would love to hear about the history of the club adding to that, how i got interested in the club was due to Doug youngs Dad when i looked after him, doug had retired from football by them due to a bad leg if i remember rightly anyway it was his dad who got me interested in Billericay ,started off as a bit time supporter then a part time supporter and now children grown up and work shifts have got better, a full time supporter, keep it cominig Neil, very interesting BF.
