Batchwood Hall

Recommended Posts

There is a story in this weeks Observer about Batchwood and the workmen renovating it, they are refusing to work after dark after a load od strange goings on, basically they think it's haunted.

However this is spooky and I didn't know this - The bones of John Beckett are buried underneath he died on November 17th 1895 in a massive fire - Remember when Batchwood burnt down a few years ago, guess the date - November 17th 1995.

He died trying to save his wife, her body was never found.

Anyway they've discovered a tunnel in there as well which goes to the abbey as well.

Spooooooky!!!

There's loads of haunted places in St. Albans. I think my house is haunted 'cos we've all had strange experinces here! I went on one of those 'Ghost Trails' a few years back-W H Smith is apparently haunted by a little boy who died there ages ago and he tugs on the skirts of the women because he wants his mum or something.

Well the story about Batchwood hall sounds alot like that of Markyate cell Barns, which is where the Wicked Lady (one of the highway men) lived back in the 1800's.

It is a fact that the place is haunted and no workmen at all want to work there, even during the day.

There is also a tunnel that goes underneath the house, and the fields and it leads up into St Pauls church.

There is also a film that was made about this back in the 50's or 60's and was filmed in Markyate, so for any of you who are interested (which probably isn't many of you), or anyone that wants to see Markyate, but can't actually be bothered to find the place, watch the film, it's very interesting!

Also Markyate is also famous for its hauntings. There are only 4 pubs in Markyate and each and everyone of them is haunted. The Sun, which is my least favourite pub was the Inn which put up Guy Fawks' men the night that Guy himself got caught.

The Swan is also haunted by an old women that rocks back and forth in a a rocking chair. I have seen this figure and it is a blue colour (don't assume that it is me being drunk because i don't drink).

Just thought I'd fill you all in on the haunting gossip!!!

Yeah right! Ok, if you want me to be your excuse then ok, but at the end of the day drink doesn't do any good to you at all. It makes you sick, stupid, ruins your liver, and lets not forget what beer goggles do!

Strange But True...Michael Aspel, in a big, dark, scary library. I was only 11. Fantastic, wasnnit??

My old school (Sacred Heart) was haunted. At least, a 'broom cupboard' in our classroom was. I heard knocking, yet no-one was there!?!? Ouigie boards were rife, along with trances and communication with spirits. Those were the days.
