ll after First time fleet game

After returning from my first game I thought I would share my experiences with you all. As a new MYFC convert but really wanting to be involved and a true football fan I thought you might be interested.

My self and my wife Maria both MYFC members left Richmond in South West London for Gravesend on Saturday at 10.00am, the journey taking just over an hour via the M25. We found our way with ease and parked up in Gravesend town centre in the hope of finding a hotel of sorts to stay overnight, lets get this point done first, I like a beer but wont drink and drive and we both wanted to do the weekend thing for our first game.

The tourist board were suprised that we wanted to stay in their town but after convincing them that we did booked us a b&b on windmill hill. Briars court was very suitable clean and tidy but the breakfast could have been larger, forgot like beer and food.

We walked into the town centre had beer and lunch and jumped a taxi from the rank outside tescos to the plough for pre match refreshments. The pub is different but not unwelcoming and after a few beers walked across the road at 2-30 for the game.

I would point out that it was freezing throughout but once inside the atmosphere was warming with a real mix of fans and 20 or so stafford fans stood all on there own at the away end. We took seats in the plough end beneath the drummer and the singing fans as we wanted to enjoy the atmosphere.

The ground was exactly as I imagined it and the tea huts were doing roaring trade.

The just over 1000 spectators, and me and the wife enjoyed a good game although when the striker got sent off for headbutting I thought any hope of victory was slim even more so when stafford went undeservedly one up. How wrong I was. The equaliser was a goal that if on MOD goal of the month would surely be a contender, an absolute blinder that sent everyone mad followed up by another belter and a bulldog spirit from the fleet to ensure victory, they deserved victory and should be proud of their performance.

Cold and thirsty we retreated back to the plough for some beer where we were made really welcome chatting with other true fans and new fans all very friendly might I add. A taxi back into town and more beer of course followed by a very good Thai restaurant for dinner with wine this time, stopping off at tesco for a bottle of something to keep the cold night away, and then back to the b&b for a night cap and MOD

We drove home this morning having had a great time and already planning our next game.

As a Yorkshire man some costs for you-

Petrol £15-00, beer & food £130-00, Taxis £10-00, B&B £60-00, Match tickets & programme £28-00, Golden goal & 50/50 tickets £4-00, parking and sundries &10-00

Total- very good value for a great weekend.

Thanks to everyone we met for making us feel welcome and of course to the fleet for such a good game.

See you next time

Damon

Thanks guys and thanks for all your recomendations but as for a b&b i went without a view of the A2 and drug alley, sorry.

What is it with all the road works by the way it was like you had no raods until 6 months ago and decided suddenly to build them all at once!

Oh and the statue of pocohontus was a bit of a let down!

There was some rumour about an extra 20,000 fans - the council wanted to make sure they could get to the ground... laugh

To all new fans that came...

Yesterday was the first time in nearly two years that we have come from a goal down to win so I'm putting this down you and you being a good omen. You now have to come to every match or the magic wont work.

As for the road works, welcome to the south east. Nice journey into Central London tomorrow, should only take about a fortnight. Cannon Street is be dug up again, yes that's right, the last time they missed a bit.

I too drive in to central london everyday so know what you go through but its still better in the car with the radio and i can still smoke, although it seems the law may soon stop me smoking in my car next!

Still at least the roads are finished!
