Cameras at games (our own that is)

A pro would not need to use a flash as he/she should have a sufficiently fast lens as to not need one. Also football players tend not to move that fast compared to other sports such as motor sport. A flash has limit range anyway so it would just be a waste of the battery.

So I think we have concluded that if you turn up with a camera approaching anything professional looking then you will be jumped on. That's me out then with my Nikon D200 and 400mm lens! smile

Shame really, as County Cricket is not so anal. I have taken photos during games (with the above equipment) and at friendlies. I was even asked for a copy of some my photos by a member of the coaching staff. The other (professional) photographers are friendly and give advance too. Oh well!

Whilst not publicising this in posters or online or in any other material, the following wording is evident on FA match tickets

3.4 Save as set out in clause 3.5 below, you shall not bring into (or use within) the Ground any equipment which is capable of recording or transmitting (by digital or other means) any

audio, visual or audio-visual material or any information or data in relation to a Match or any aspect of it. Any person acting in breach of this provision shall be required to deliver

up films, files, tapes or discs of such recording to The FA and copyright in any unauthorised recording or transmission is assigned (by way of present assignment of future copyright pursuant to section 91 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988) to The FA.

3.5 Subject to the provisions of clause 3.4 above, mobile telephones are permitted within the Ground, provided that they are used for bona fide personal and private call making / receiving use only.

I have, however, sat through many a match with an SLR clicking away and changing lenses when needed (within easy sight of a steward) and not been asked to justify my existence. On the other hand, a senior steward at Birmingham City FC wanted to confiscate my phone for taking a picture of someone being thrown out of the bar area, beneath the stand.

Interesting that this clause appears on their tickets but Carling have run an amateur photography competition around the FA Cup Semi-Final matches!
