give trotty credit where its due....

just listened to the after match report and Trotty brought up his comments made after the Maidstone game

He gave an apology , which in my eyes is very good of him

I am feeling alot more upbeat at the moment, a good position in the league considering how we have been playing. keep this up and we may be pushing for play offs when we have a full fit team

The new signing looks good, the 5 a sides are coming on, the club is starting to brand itself

Alan.... can I keep these rose tinted glasses wink

Yeah fair play to him for his apology. Glad he brought in Lovegrove on loan. Really glad he brought in that extra defender. I get the impression that once injured players return we could be in contention, with a bit of luck. Just need to string a few results together as RT said in his post match interview yesterday. We must not let the top few teams pull clear so more points from the next two games is vital.

Go along with most of that, but it keeps on coming back to the C word-consistency.

The fact is we are consistent-we consistently win one ,lose one, draw one.

Not too much wrong with that, excepting we could do better.

Not seen the team for a while,so a bit out of touch, but it seems to me that as we stand at moment, the consistent-win lose draw sequence will continue.

In reality,i can't see that we currently have enough quality -particularly with the injuries to do better.

To me-there is not enough 'different' to get different results.

In reality,it seems we may have been a bit fortunate yesterday, but perhaps unfortunate the week before,so that says to me that we are not quite good enough to impose our will and seize the games.Epitomised by the fact that we have not won two games on the trott since 1st September.

Indeed, we have not been able to even take 4 points from 2 league games since 1st September.

I think that will keep happening for a while yet, as we simply are'nt yet quite good enough to do much else.Again, not a criticism-just fact.

Great that Smith and Young did well on saturday-but have a fear they are to young, and together are not yet quite good enough to perform at the 'highest' level week in week out, that a more experience player gives you (not a criticism-just fact that they are learning still ).

Realistically, are Peters,Smith ,Young and Lovegrove old enough, wise enough, mentally and physically strong enough to thwart Ryman attacks over the next month ? (will we lose Peters next week anyway )

I still feel we urgently need that quality central defender and right back-then maybe, just maybe, we can mount a decent challenge for play-offs,and bring a winning consistency to the side.

Just hope i'll be proved completely wrong and we get 6 points from next 2 games

Last time we took 4 points from 2 games was 10th November. 1st september was our last 6 points in 2 games. Having said all that the 6 games (between 4th Sept and 9th October) without a win was a killer. But equally, with 5 defeats we are on the same as Ramsgate in 3rd. With 25 goals we have scored 4 more than Wimbledon in 4th. With 25 goals agiants we have conceded 3 fewer than Hendon in 2nd. And we are just 2 points off the play off places (given our goal difference couldn't bring myself to say 1 point).

I'm with Pagey in that there is still room for reasonable optimism. I'm also pleased that Robin is not jus getting anyone in to make the numbes up. He is using loan players until he can get the right players, an approach to be supported I'd say.

And I can confirm that a central defender remains high on MFS's wish list!

When you look at our recent league results Michael it hasn't actually been too inconsistent. In our last 6 games we have won 3 drawn 2 & lost only once,& that was against Maidstone where we really were cruising at 3-1. So all in all not a bad effort when you take all things into consideration.Admittedly we haven't won two on the trott as you say but we would have had 3 on the run but for that ridiculous capitulation v Maidstone. Then with another victory we hope on Tuesday it could have been 4 in a row. Am looking to Tuesday to see us "double up" & I am more than hopeful of seeing us achieve that.

16/10 (H) v Leyton WIN 2-1

27/10 (A) v Heybridge Swifts DRAW 3-3

29/10 (A) v Folkestone Invicta DRAW 1-1

10/11 (H) v Harrow WIN 2-1

17/11 (H) v Maidstone LOST 4-3

24/11 (A) v Billericay WIN 1-0

11 points out of our last 18 isn't bad at all.Once again, taking ALL things into account.WDDWLW

I agree with you Michael, however that just because the two youngsters did well on Saturday that shouldn't deter Trotty from continuing with his search for that central defender & right back.

p.s Apology accepted Trotty,(from me anyway.)Thank you!

Reading the NLP today and an article on Bertie Brayley, it appears that RT may not be on Brayleys christmas card list.No surprise there then.

'Least wanted dinner guests'-Robin Trott- ''he knows why''.

They obviously think very highly of each other.

Good stuff what you can do with stats is'nt it.

Had a bit of an anorak moment trhis afternoon;and Wellsie and cookie are of course correct that we have in fact taken 4 points in two league games more recently than september-albeit it was interspersed by a cup defeat at leamington.

One thing we all want though is of course 6 points from the next two home league games.

On the subject of stats-it will be of no great surprise that the one stat i look at is the goals conceded column, where after saturdays clean sheet, we climbed from 14th to 12th in the table.

As long as we keep climbing that table, we will be alright.

Goals for win you games, goals against win you championships.

Consistent improvement does not just happen by talking about it.

You have to do something/play someone different and better, or by coaching, make what you've got better.

Talking about being consistent (winning more) will get us nowhere.

Action will bring improved results.

If nothing changes, you will keep getting the same results-.

I feel that the core issues of right back and central defence have not yet been addressed;and until they are little will change for the medium and long term -sufficient to get us to the play offs

I never expected much anyway this season, so i can live with it.

Nothing wrong with a good anorak, eh MM? And just to prove it, here is our comparison to last season, 17 games in:

Goals scored -13

Goals conceded +3

Points won -9

League position -5
