Yesterday's Reserve game at Basildon Utd

Yesterday I witnessed an extraordinary scene at Basildon Utd FC.

Bas Utd res were playing Canvey's res side. Two ladies approached the entrance and were asked for the entry fee of £4.00 each (the question of whether £4 was justified is neither here nor there, but is common for ressie games).

The older lady (Mum) said she was the team Physio/nurse so should not have to pay, but that she would pay for her daughter who she claimed was 14 (£2 fee), 14 my @rse!!!!

The mum/physio then took her place in the stand (as opposed to the dugout). When challenged as to why she was in the stand as opposed to the dugout, she threw a strop and was told if she was the team physio she would have to sit in the dugout, You should have seen the fuss that ensued..... Over four quid!!!

We then saw the strange site of Mum & daughter take their place in the dugout.... WTF?

Canvey Island FC of all clubs should understand the need to raise funds, so why "dodge" tryng to pay entrance fees???

One individual (apparently the son of the "physio") even tried to say that as there were no notices sayng "Show passes or pay" that they should be exempt!!!!

Guys it was embarrassing!!! Don't be so f**king tight!!!!!

I know our club do not do things like that, everyone pays their way!

I suspect this was some tight wad trying to avoid paying, one of the key things about our club is everyone pays their way.

Whoever this was should have paid, I would not have let her in if she did not have a pass, I am sure a refund coud have been arranged id she really was an official!!!

Who on a freezing cold Saturday afternoon could pay to watch Bas Utd res v Canvey res when there is so much other choice to spend your money on.

1..Could be in the warm & comfort of your armchair watching the world go by.

2..Could be watching the live footy on the telly.

3..Could be watching your local park side, cost nothing.

4..Could be watching the racing on the telly.

5..Could be watching Bas Utd or Canvey 1st team's

6..Could be watching the teleyprint for the results

7..Could be doing lots and lots and lots of otherthings than wasting four quid on that res game.

Feel really sorry on how those people were treated. I hope you give them their money back and make them a nice warm cuppa.

That is BoolllooxxxxSS!!!

If you go through the door you pay the price, I could name 100 things I could do that are better than getting up on that sea wall on a wet November night!

You do it because you love your footie, we like other teams cannot afford freeloaders, instead of a warm cuppa I would ban them!!

We do not want freeloaders at Canvey, if she does not pay, why should anyone else!!

I know one player whose mum pays to watch him play, if first team players family do it so should the ressies.

Reflecting on the above!!!!

Is there anything any parent would feel more proud of than their boy reaching a level that they had to pay to watch them play for their local side!

Every people unit has a couple of grab what you can merchants but in general terms most clubs visited by CIFC fans earn more cash through the gate and over the bar etc than is normal from visiting fans.

Introduce the "ladies" concerned to your couple of con merchants and let the matter be.

Maybe so but they were still representing CIFC and the players were wearing CIFC kit.

I know this was not how CIFC people normally conduct themselves, which is why I found it extraordinary.

I'm not a Basildon Utd fan (Bowers & Pitsea fan in fact) but I was there to watch my lad playing for Bas Utd's ressies. His mum and I paid £4 each plus a couple of quid towards the "Bus Stop". Add to that a couple of drinks in the bar too. I look forward to being able to do this at Park Lane also. Like Pabird said, maybe time to let it rest!

Best wishes for the future!

Sorry to dig up this old thread but i have only just noticed it on the forum. Can i just add fuel to the shame on Canvey island when i tell you all that it was the managers wife and daughter and his reply to us telling him that she will be asked to leave if she dosn't pay was he said if his wife didn't get in free he would take his team home.......£4 fecking pound!!!!!!. Please let me asure you that we are aware how good your true followers are which makes this manager and his family a total embaressment to your club.

I'm sure Rookie didn't mean the WHOLE of Canvey Island!!! grin

The rest is true though! The manager was asked how he would explain to the board of CIFC, the Essex, Herts and Bordering Counties Combination League and the Essex FA, why his team walked off just because his wife and daughter were asked an admission fee. Trust me, I was there and saw and heard it all.

Still, nuff said!!!

BTW, congrats to Batchy on the Manager of the Month award. You're a great club and I hope to see you climb back, allbeit slowly, up the pyramid!!
