North Greenford Utd 2-0 Dorking

Two out of form teams met on a freezing afternoon at Berkeley Fields, with Greenford coming out 2-0 winners.

Dorking seemed to have some new faces on show (to me anyway!) and started off well playing with the benefit of the slope. The first real chance came on 8 minutes following some nice approach work from the Chicks, Adam Pero found the ball at his feet in the box, turned and shot just wide of the post. The game ebbed and flowed, but the Dorking defence went missing on the half hour as the ball found its way to Luc Kenny who put Greenford ahead.

In the second half, Dorking again started brightly with a speculative 20 yard shot from Steve Augustine striking the crossbar. Greenford started to get on top again and went further ahead on 59 minutes through Paul Middleton's angled shot from the edge of the area. Dorking battled to the end and showed some lovely play in the final third at times, without really threatening the Greenford goal.

To be honest, not having seen Dorking for a month or so, I expected worse. Having said that Dorking need to start picking up points quickly or they'll be adrift.

Dorking -Roberts, Bereton, Hill, Newman, Styles, King, Smith, Wheeler, Pero, Augustine, Ahmed.

North Greenford Utd - Hannigan, McCormack, Britto, Booth, Peacock, Middleton, Richards, Kenny, Kempton, Bird, Hillier.

Augustine in the line up? Have long stories been finished, and pens found?

Has wembley way become Dorking Drive?

Dorking dont look like getting thumped each week but dont look like picking up points either.

I was down at Meadowbank yesterday and a 1/2 dozen or so of last years Dorking squad were either playing or watching.

They are at other clubs now but its a pity there doesnt seem to be a way to get them back down there with the best of this Dorking squad, relegation could be the final straw.

Dorking match report for those of you who can't get it:-

"Dorking made the difficult trip to 7th placed North Greenford on Saturday boosted by the signing midweek of several new faces, including ex Wembley striker Steve Augustine, who started the game for Dorking in attack with Adam Pero.

North Greenford have been having mixed results of late and went into this game on the back of a three match losing run, but Dorking new the size of their task as not too long ago.North Greenford beat Raynes Park Vale 7-1 away from home in something of a mixed campaign to date for the Middlesex side expected by many to be one of the stronger sides this season. For Dorking, the game saw Chicks go into the game as the bottom side, without a win since the October victory over Egham, and although the result once more proved disappointing for the side, manager Tony Webb will take some comfort from the overall performance of the side, the team looking more balanced throughout the line up than of late. Perhaps most promising is the fact that Dorking now look lively in attack, with Augustine sure to worry many defences in coming games, with ex MK Dons youngster Tony Ahmed looking a real handful for the opposition, Ahmed having been referred to the club by ex Spurs player and Millwall and Swindon manager Dave Tuttle, Ahmed having made his debut in last weekend's home defeat by Bedfont.

This weekend Dorking face Reading Town in a big game for the club, as a victory would be a shot in the arm to the club's survival hopes, while a defeat would be a great boost for the Berkshire club as they seek to put distance between themselves and the bottom two in the division. Kick off at Meadowbank will be at 3pm and children as usual will be admitted to the ground for free when accoumpanied by a paying adult.

On the fine playing surface at North Greenford on Saturday, Dorking opened brightly in an entertaining game, something that manager Tony Webb will have been pleased to see given that debuts were given to Tom Bereton and Alex Hill at full back and Steve Augustine in attack, the side showing a fair number of changes from the one that started against Bedfont. Indeed Adam Pero could have added to his brace last week by finding the net after 10 minutes when presented with a good close range opportunity, but his shot crept just wide of the post.

An even first half was undone for Dorking by a lack of concentration on the half hour which saw North Greenford score on teh break through Kenny, but the feeling at the interval was that Dorking were capable of forcing a result, and the side responded well after the interval, Ahmed, Pero, Joshua Smith and Augustine combining well and Herve King proving influential in the middle of the Dorking midfield. Augustine hit the cross bar for Dorking in a good spell for the side, but a great strike on 61 minutes from Middleton which hit the bar, then the post before going into the goal made it 2-0 for North Greenford, slightly against the run of play

Dorking continued to hold their own, again hitting the bar, and may have reduced the arrears, but North Greenford held on for a clean sheet. Overall, this would have been seen as a positive performance by Webb, and with two big home games agaisnt fellow strugglers coming up in early to mid December, Webb will hope the improved performance can be turned into points in the coming games

Team 1 chris roberts, 2 tom brereton, 3 alex hill, 4 roy newman, 5 mark styles, 6 herve king. 7 joshua smith. 8 alex wheeler, 9 adam pero, 10 steve augustine, 11 tom ahmed, subs12 liam lovell, 14 jake saunders.
