No I was not there and would not know if this incident was accidental. I was replying to another poster who was suggesting goalies should be carded in these situations even if the act was accidental.

Its obvious he meant it otherwise he would have waited in his area to collect the ball,but he couldnt as a Bas forward was closing in.

Agreed with Basil-Don (quelle surprise). The keeper came out to take the ball to prevent the oncoming striker from having a clear run on goal. I would suggest, too, that he knew what he was doing as he immediately threw the ball away, ran back to his goal line and began organising his defensive wall. Those of us there could see there was clear intent.

 

Whilst I'm sure we all recognise and acknowledge genuine errors from time to time, especially at this level, this simply began a flood of questionable decisions and mistakes which, to my mind, spoilt what was becoming a decent match. I would emphasise, however, there was no bias shown to either team in my view, it was just the decision-making that was awry.

 

I trust the ref himself, who said it was his first season at this level, learns from what was 'a bad day at the office'.
