Clarence Park Supporters Game

Recommended Posts

I don't really know. At the end of the day, it's Gibson's club, and that's far more important than the fans who've been coming here for years, and in some cases, decades.

It's far more important that his drinking mates get a game on the hallowed turf than us.

(I will say at this point, it is all still just rumour. But from a very reliable source)

And quite frankly if he thinks we smashed up the ground then the bloke is a total [****!!****]

It's our club, not his, we were there before him, we'll be there after him and we're still here while he's here we haven't felt the urge to smash it up before so does he really think we'll do it just because he's the chairman.

Remember it's him who has a problem with us!

Right, before anymore ranting and raving, I'll give everyone the facts.

Every year since Saints Supporters FC were formed in 1993, we have had a traditional end of season game at The Park. Over the years we have chosen to play a variety of teams such as Chruch End, Cell Barnes, A Cockers All Star XI and for the last 2 seasons, EFM. We booked the pitch for this season's game for Sat 17th May. We then selected our opposition, who this year we chose as a John Gibson All Star XI. End of story. It is not Mr Gibson's decision to ostricise EFM from the fixture. Nor is it Saints Supporters decision to 'prevent' a supporters match taking place. This is our annual game, I'm sure the pitch may be available at other dates for such a game to take place between 22 supporters.

Brew - point taken.

Although I will point out that the game which took place in 2001 was a game organised by Lee Harding following a request by Pete and myself, and not, I would suggest, played as your annual game at the Park.

Nevertheless, Gibson does have a problem with us, supporters game or no supporters game. Remember the time he threatened to ban ALL of us, if just ONE of us stepped out of line??

CZ, given that Mr Page was our supremo in 2001 and he was at loggerheads with Mr Harding, we thought it prudent to not ask for a second game!!

As for the chairman, I'd suggest calling him a w**ker (EFMTFTV) and accusing him of this and that (various) before anyone has bothered to find out the facts and truth probably doesn't aid the situation, but hey.

AFF, cutting edge wit as ever. The old ones are the best eh.

As a member of ss football team along with brew and co and having read this message board for the first time today, can i say something, the game mentioned earlier when you said was arranged by harding, was infact our game on the pitch and we had already booked the pitch and asked you guys to play, and harding the idiot man jumped on the bandwagon hence the trophy. We would still like to play you guys as usual but it will just have to happen at another time and place, and im sure this can be sorted.

That's not strictly true, sky blue. Coventry, perchance??

It was Anthony and Pete who challenged you guys to a game, and Lee set the thing up for us, even producing a match-day programme. John Kendall took us for training on the pitch a week or two before the game.

That game had nothing to do with SS's one annual game per year at Clarence Park. It was done as a thank-you to both EFM and SS for the season's support.

I am a reliable source and have played for SS for about 7 years and up until 1 week ago believed I would be playing against EFM on the park. I was told, certainly not asked that we would now be playing Gibbos XI. If I had have been asked I would have gone with EFM. Apologies to all at EFM

These events, and the various contributions to this thread in particular, are a microcosm of today's Society.

Why not play the game at Verulam Park and then go back to the Clubhouse for drink and watch the F.A. Cup final?

With Gibson having put the block on the game, and with him feeling the way he does about EFM, why on earth would we want to put money into his bar at the club??

Fighting Cocks sounds a good idea to me, Laz.

I have also been playing for ss for sometime and was looking forward tothe annual EFM game, but it looks like to me that there are a few things riding on this game and the decision was made for us( i wont go into the detais in regards to what is riding on the game) however im sure that all those at SS would stil like to play EFM at sometime and if the two mangagers of secretartys get together im sure this can be arranged. there is no hard feelings towards EFM as we know the most of you and often share beers in pubs together at the weekends. i think that the whole EFM/gibbo thing needs to be sorted out though as it is not good for the club. look forward to playing you all soon get in touch with ss club sec and game can and wil be arranged. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
