Clarence Park Supporters Game

Recommended Posts

According to my source, the end of season supporters' match at Clarence Park is now being contested by Saints Supporters FC and The Farriers Arm FC (John Gibson's local).

Gibbo, allegedly, does not want EFM to take any part in this fixture.

So much for the match being a "thank-you" to the fans for their support over the season.

Our chairman really does know how to alienate people, doesn't he?

He was quoted in the Observer as saying that he doesn't "recognise" EFM as a supporters group, and by jove he's sticking to his guns.

Erm. By my reckoning, a supporters match should be played between 2 sets of supporters. The above match is, in theory, disqualified as a supporters match, and we should still be able to have a game.

Obviously, the fantastic day out that was had last season (lovely sunny day, the FA Cup Final (even if you support Spurs et al), EFM 3-3 SS, drinks in the bar afterwards, everyone enjoying themselves, there was a disco too wasn't there?) cannot be repeated because a). the Farriers Arms - SS match is on Cup Final Day and B). EFM are unrecognised as a group of supporters, therefore in some people's eyes the match would not be a supporters match.

Enough of my ranting, back to the point...

Is this definite? Surely a SS - EFM game can be arranged as well?

No, obviously not- EFM don't support Saints and all these posts have been written by non-Saint's fans who never watch the team home or away, have no knowledge of players and club history and don't even come from St.Albans.Just the sort of people who wouldn't turn up to a re-arranged midweek fixture in the middle of February the day after 4 inches of snow. Unlike Mr Gibson of course.

Considering the Farriers Arms probably contrubute zero to the club over a season I think it's bang out of order.

EFM however contrubute a lot, we are there at most games (I think i've missed 4 league games), we are being tarred again due to two incidents this season, both of which had nothing to do with us (Stockport ejections & Aldershot messages).

When is our chairman going to stop this grudge against the fans that quite frankly get the atmosphere going and for whomn the younger supporters (which he proclaims as the sort he wants) enjoy standing with.

If he actually talked to other supporters and indeed some members of his own board he'd find we are not viewed with the derision he thinks.

This is just a petty grudge from quite a sad petty man!

Hmm. Think we may be tarred due to a certain incident at Aylesbury too, but otherwise, spot on.

And as Trev said in an email yesterday, I can't help thinking he may consider us responsible for the vandalism at the ground a few months ago.

MAD, if we play, no problem!!

I'm not sure if we were really tarred at Aylesbury. All that happened was that one supporter jumped over the wall as we scored our third goal. The stewards could have handled the situation with tact by either warning him or removing him through the crowd. It looked to me as though the Aylesbury stewards were looking for trouble and made sure they got some.
