Ok, so I was wrong...

Recommended Posts

Top 5 Bands I once slated, but now love!!

1. Pink Floyd - wouldn't listen to what people said. I accused them of being dull on this very board. Several hundred listens to Echoes later, I admit it - I was wrong!!

2. Radiohead - didn't even buy OK Computer til 2001. A big regret. And Kid A is one of the best albums of this decade.

3. The Smiths - I hated them in the 80's, accusing them of being miserable. Love 'em now, and people who still call them miserable are guilty of the laziest pigeon-holing.

4. Hmmm. I'll have a think about 4 and 5 and come back to you.

Oh, and I still stand by my original judgments on The Streets and Elvis Presley!!

I know I am yet to convince you on Led Zep, but maybe one day.... They have been rumoured to reform with Dave Grohl for a tour, would be interested in seeing that one.

Probably the only one I could put in this category are The White Stripes, thought they sounded a bit disjointed at first but think they're fantastic now. I agree with The Smiths one as well, that took a long time for me to get in to and a lot of my friends felt the same, they couldn't get used to Morrisey's unique vocal style, but I think the same applies with Thom Yorke, saying he's got a whinining voice, which I think is a tad unfair, but I was always going to say that!

I've got the "No Quarter" album which was a live album and there's a stupendous version of Kashmir with the assistance of an Egyptian Orchestra on it, saw Robert Plant live at Glasto and would put it down as one of the highlights of the festival. But I think they'd more than a bit special live together.

As for C&D, I kinda like them, but I couldn't really see them supporting Led Zep. Mind you, Humphrey Littleton(jazz trumpeter) support at Radiohead went down a treat and they didn't necessarily sit well together as genres.

1. The Pixies -Surfer Rosa was far too heavy for youth raised on Echo & The Bunnymen and New Order

2. The Manic Street Preachers Overhyped by NME - only got into them when my Mum(!) bought The Holy Bible (their last great album)

3. David Bowie All that dressing up and those horrendous album covers

4. All decent bands pre-1975- that's so 'mum and dad'

5. Stone Temple Pilots - actually i've just caught you out- they're still [censored]
