What lies ahead if anything?

Recommended Posts

The game against Aldersh@t on saturday was the first game I have attended for many a month.Although I have been one of the many supporters that have stopped going reguarly,I have always followed events at the club by public house talk and via this forum. What I can't understand is how the club finds itself in its current problems at the moment. Is it true that if it was not for Calders son's money input into the club, the club would of struggled to finish the end of the season and is it true that there is no chance of the gloucester park move ever going ahead due to there being hardly any chance of planning permission being granted? So whats going to be the story next season?Another 11 new players in the team and come February the majority of players leaving? Is it not time Calder,Moore and the other club directors tell us where they have gone wrong and what the plans for the future of the club is,because if not what real future lies ahead for the club?

Calder and Moore should go now so there can be a new manager and chairman preparing for next season. As once again we have no money for any good players and nothing more to play for except our usual mid table position.

It would be good to know if we are going to adopt the same strategy as this year.

ie. Buy better than average players with higher wages in the hope they perform and generate revenue through the gate, FA Cup and FA Trophy.

Unfortunately it did not work this year and we had to sell the players. However we are not going down and have witnessed some excellent games.

I know we are now watching an average team with promising youngsters but for a club of our current size and finance the strategy is an option, all be it risky.

Who knows with GPark, I tend to agree with newlodgeblue, it is looking doubtful (for now). I would have thought the move incorporated money for quality players.

I for one appreciate the effort the Management put into the club which provides football for me to watch each week It would be interesting to know what is planned for next season. Either way I will be there next season.

As an outsider just following the crisis at your club the thing that I can not understand is that no official statement has been made by the club, this always leads to rumors, many of which are untrue and many true, why not clear the decks with some official announcement and then everyone will know the true situation.. The latest rumors I have heard are that the club will not survive until the end of the season and that former directors are demanding their money back, how I dont know, but if all this is untrue lets have a statement.

 • 2 weeks later...

A few years ago moves were made to oust the current managerial team. This was largely supported by older fans who had helped Billericay create its outstanding reputation, and opposed by younger fans, particularly the ladies team ,who thought they knew better. After being voted down, Tony Thake and his backers predicted the downfall of the Club. It's taken a bit longer than expected but its now about to come crashing down in more spectacular style than even the greatest cynic would have thought.

Where are you now? The club has gone from one being owned by Club members (ie supporters) to one that is owned by shareholders. Who owns the shares, ie control of the club? How much was raised from the initial selling of the shares and what happened to that money? How could a small outfit like Billericay Town FC imagine it could justify a paid full time Chief Executive? Is he/was he paid in cash or in kind (shares)?

The future is dire. The chance of attracting new leadership is

close to zero. In the past a new Chairman would be elected by a vote of members. Now he/she will have to 'buy out' the principal shareholder(s), as well as take on unprecented bank debt. Not an attractive prospect.

The finances of the club have been kept going thru a series of one off manoeuvres (share issues etc), and the rent paid by Chelmsford City. Chelmsford will move at out ASAP and the financial engineering is exhausted. It is a last desperate throw of the dice to join Stadia Management in the proposed new development. Never mind about whether planning permission will be granted, or if the team will maintain any substantial support if/when it moves to Basildon. A more significant issue is that the club will go out of existance.

Think about the costs of building and maintaining an 8000 spectator stadium...it has been quoted as £8 million. That money could be put in the bank and earn £300,000 a year,or £6,000 a week. If BTFC continue to attract 500-600 punters for each home game, the income would be less than £150K each year, or £3,000 a week. Players wages and the expense of running the show would be close to,or exceed this amount so Stadia Management are £300,000 a year out of pocket. If you were running a company in these circumstances what would you do? It's a fair guess that they would get rid of BTFC and find a team that could attract much higher support. If I were running the show I'd be thinking of Southend Utd.
