Sloane FC was founded by a group of University of the Arts London friends in 2007, who had been representing their university in the BUSA/BUCS and ULU Leagues. Speerheaded by founder and Sloane chairman Steve "piggy" Pigott, the dream became reality as Sloane were entered into Middlesex County Division 1 Central and East in 2007. A successfull first season saw the Chelsea outfit miss-out on promotion by 1 place, but did not dampen their spirits as the following year, Sloane gained promotion into the Middlesex County Premier League and relocated to the prestigious Burton Court, home of the Chelsea Pensioners right in the heart of London.
Arguably the most central team in all forms of football, with only Chelsea FC boasting a significant central location, Sloane adapted to life as a representative of the local community, playing at the highest amature level of football. The first season cemented Sloane's position as a Premier league club, finishing in a respectable 7th place. In 2009, Sloane FC expanded, with the creation of a Reserve team, playing in the Middlesex County Reserve League, and the following year, a Sloane FC ladies team was established. The club was rolling fast in the right direction, but sadly suffered heart break, when Burton Court and the Royal Hospital forced the hand of Sloane FC, when they were asked to pay £1000 per match at the grounds. A fee no amature club could afford and subsiquently meant a relocation for Sloane to Hackney Marshes.
2011 and 2012 seasons saw Sloane play their home games at the famous Hackney Marshes, but the never give up attitude of Chairman Steve Pigott has seen the impossible happen and Sloane return to their spiritual home of Burton Court, starting at the end of September 2013. The much negotiated price has been dropped significantly, but is still 4x more expensive then any other club has to pay in their league. With the optimism that a sponsor will come in to help the club pay their bills, 2013 is a huge season for Sloane, both financially and in a footballing sense.
A new coach has taken the reigns, with a fantastic pedegry and enthusism to play good football, the season could be a fantastic success, or see the club struggle to control the books.
Perhaps Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid or even Gareth Bale himself could spare a measly £6k to help a grass routes football team be able to continue to compete in the Middlesex County League. Pennies compared to the £80m+ paid for a human being.
* Please Note: As of end September, Sloane will be playing their home games at Burton Court. Please check http://www.sloanefc.co.uk to confirm location of matches.
