All Is Rosy In The Football Finder Garden As Their Player Crop Harvest Looks Impressive
The hardest job for any manager, apart from getting the chairman to open his/her wallet, has to be assembling a good squad of players.
However, with budgets tightening and good quality players hard to find, it can be a seemingly impossible task to build a competitive squad on a shoe-string. Even at Steps 5-7, there are the 'haves' and 'have-nots', and if your club falls into the latter category you are more likely to dread the start of the new season than welcome it with open arms.
Wouldn't it be great if there was a Tesco or Morrison's for players, or even a Farmers Market, where you could get a good quality player without affecting squad morale and without the chairman recoiling for fear of splashing the cash?
Well, maybe there is a place - UK Football Finder FC has recently come into being. Playing in the Surrey South East Combination, although with longer term plans to move up the non-league pyramid, it offers players who have been released by clubs the chance to get back into football who would otherwise go undetected by clubs who could benefit from signing a few of these players.
Personally, I admire UK Football Finder for plugging a pretty big hole in football; the hole that drops a player out on his backside at 17/18 and makes it difficult for him to realise his potential. Without a good education, and bad influences, that player could go from a potential world-beater to being unemployed or even jail within a short space of time.
Unlike the Glenn Hoddle Academy, UK Football Finder takes in players from everywhere and there is a great mix of British and Foreign players at their club. It is hard to pinpoint a stand-out player among a pool of 40 or more talented stars, but John Mulligan is one of those players surely destined for bigger and better things. He is a young Irish goalkeeper who originally was on the books of Everton and has played for the Republic of Ireland U18s as well as trial spells with Crewe Alexandra and Hull City. An injury put paid to his trial at Hull City and meant that he would return to the Republic of Ireland and would have to rebuild his career with the FAI Academy, Cobh Ramblers (where Roy Keane started his playing career) and Cork City. John has played against Ipswich Town and Sunderland for Cork City and clearly has the talent to play in the Football League. Yet, he has had to drop down to the Surrey South East Combination for the chance to play in England due to a lack of interest or acknowledgement when he has applied to clubs to train with them for pre-season. John is an agile shot-stopper who commands his area well and can deal with crosses into the box with ease, and having impressed Everton he must surely be worthy of consideration for any club needing a solid goalkeeper.
Anil Bugday is also a star in the making - released by Tottenham Hotspur as a youngster, and following stints in Turkey with Karsiyaka, Galatasaray and Karabukspor, he is an agile goal-scorer who is not yet 20 whom would be comfortable playing at most levels of non-league.
Recent success stories for UK Football Finder FC have seen former Camberley Town player Ben Kator sign for League Two side Barnet, whilst 15 year old striker Ishmael Kamara was recently offered a scholarship with Premier League new boys West Ham United. Goalkeeper Sam Freeman has recently joined Hampton & Richmond (keeping a clean sheet on his debut), defender/striker John Kamara (no relation) has been scouted by Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion and Joseph Odedina has been scouted by Millwall and Leyton Orient. All will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of a player now at Manchester City who used the site to advertise his services - that player is Abdul Razak.
The only sour note is the dismissal of two players - Reece Perry and Junior Pires - for a serious altercation against Mayfair FC. Very sad, especially as both players were being scouted by Cheltenham Town and Brentford in this match. Reece's talent in particular cannot be faulted (he was at Fulham until six months ago) but by threatening a player with 'a visit from his gang' he may well and truly have blotted his copy book for good.
It will be interesting to see how UK Football Finder FC develops, but one thing is certain - they are in it for the long haul. True, they will lose players along the way to bigger clubs (as they would expect to) but the club is always 'replenishing its stock' and already has over 50 players currently signed up. With their season starting in September, and having been strong in pre-season beating Colliers Wood United's Reserves 8-2 recently, they are a team to watch this season for more reasons than one!
