Cornish side Truro City are just one game away from Conference football!

What a turnaround! thumbsup.gif

From trailing 1-0 at half-time, City came out after the break and looked a different side. They made the one change at the break - Danny Clay coming on in the middle of the park with Marcus Martin going out left replacing Dan Smith.

The game opened with both sides exchanging chances in the opening quarter - Martin having two attempts at goal, while for the visitors Nick Stanley turned and shot, while their most dangerous player for me, James Rowe, had a shot go tantalisingly across the face of the Truro goal! Barry Hayles had a good run into the box before shooting wide, but then disaster!

A free-kick out on the Leamington right, swung in and ending up in the back of the Truro net. I thought an own goal, between either Barry McConnell or Steve Adams heading into their own net, and hopefully the video evidence later tonight when Mark Huckle produces his Piran Films highlights will tell us for sure, as the League website is quoting a goal by Nick Stanley!

The rest of the half belonged to Leamington who will have no doubt gone in annoyed they couldn't increase their one goal lead. That failing proved crucial as within three minutes of the restart City were level when a long clearance from 'keeper Rice fell to Barry Hayles who worked his way into the Leamington box before laying the ball onto Les Afful to score from close range.

Just past the hour Martin blazed over from 12 yards, and with City having all the play, things got even worse on 69 minutes for Leamington when they had midfielder Neil Barnfield red carded for an incident when Martin was challenged in mid-air and skipper Jake Ash also ended up on the deck. After a long debate between referee Richard Hulme and his assistants, Leamington ended up with ten men as well as Richard Batchelor also getting a yellow!

City's second goal must be one of the best seen at Treyew this season as Andy Taylor crashed the ball in from the edge of the penalty area after great work once again from that man Hayles. The ex-pro stole the ball away from a hesitant visitors' defence and raced towards the goal-line before pulling the ball back across the penalty area, Afful couldn't get on the end of it, but Taylor certainly did. 2-1 and there was no stopping the league leaders now!

Ten minutes later and the maximum points were wrapped up with Afful's 8th league goal of the campaign. He weaved his way into the box and somehow squeezed the ball just inside the upright with the Leamington 'keeper Tony Breedon making a hash of attempting to keep the ball out.
