What a week ahead!
Firstly, the Vase road to Wembley is over for Torpoint! A gallant performance by all accounts, especially from 'keeper Martin Piper, but a deserved win for opponents Poole.
Meanwhile, Truro City picked up a more than useful win over fellow promotion contenders Cambridge City. Two goals from ex-pro Barry Hayles early in the second-half was enough to take them back onto the top of the Southern League table. The second one was in particular a well-taken goal with Hayles showing a lot of class and composure to slot the ball past the visitors' goally after Hayles had ran from the half-way line. On to this week now and what a week for football in the county - Tuesday and Thursday is Cornwall Senior Cup semi-finals nights. Bodmin Town v Penzance at Newquay tomorrow, with St Austell v Saltash Utd (a repeat of the controversial 2009 final) two days later at Liskeard's Lux Park.
My tip (not that its anything to go by) for the final, to be staged at Hayle (a first for the club) : Bodmin v Saltash
In between that, there's St Blazey v Falmouth Town in the SWPL on Wednesday. Two of the Duchy's biggest clubs, historically at least, meet at Blaise Park.
Enjoy!
